So I'm heading to Yosemite...

July 28th, 2022

So I

... and I'm hoping that this massive rampaging fire will have been extinguished!

Wouldn't it be a breath of fresh air to have the maintenance of our natural resources actually be effective?

Nothing quite captures in words the breathtaking view through Yosemite Valley. Nothing that I could say would be enough to explain just how naturally spiritual this place is. It must be experienced.

I took this photograph from the popular Wawona Tunnel overlook in 2005. A bit of a hike would have taken me to Inspiration point. Alas, I had younger family in tow and making that trip was not to be. But the impact of this place was caught all the same.

Looking forward to a 2022 experience.

Agenda is Kern River > Sequoia National Park > Bass Lake > Yosemite > June Lake Belt.

Leaving August 19th

Red Rock Canyon Nevada Is A Must See

Red Rock Canyon Nevada Is A Must See

When going into the Las Vegas Nevada area you can see, off to the west, these inviting mountains of a multitude of colors. I had always wondered what they were and decided to pack my gear and wonder over to investigate. I have to admit to being ignorant of Red Rock Canyon until I found myself loving photography. My early morning trip from the city changed everything.

I made it a destination point the next time around. But as circumstance dictated, the loop was closed about 7 miles in and we were forced to go around the fringes and stop in scenic vista road spots. It ended up being a blessing in disguise because we discovered the Spring Mountain Ranch State Park along with the little town of Blue Diamond.

From the photograph: Mount Wilson is the most recognizable and highest peak in the Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area. It reaches a height of 7,071 ft with over 3,000 feet of gain from the canyon floor.

The Sentinel From Emerald Pools Trail - Zion

The Sentinel seems to be peaking at us from beyond the jutting cliffs along the Emerald Pools Trail in Zion National Park. It's breathtaking and a bit intimidating at the same time.

We had just made the trek from the Zion Canyon Lodge and were heading back down when I caught some pretty amazing photos of the different peaks and cliffs that were on either side of us.

I have a great fondness for these natural monuments. They are a testimony to the awesomeness of creation. They have a way of making me understand how fortunate I am to enjoy the master Creators handiwork and to share it forward to a world starving for beauty and peace.

Just sit back and imagine being there. The Sentinel peaks at 7,157 feet.

Have a great day!

A New Thought From A Long Absence

A New Thought From A Long Absence

I haven't added a blog in forever. Well, not really. I mean it's been a very long time

The last several years have been challenging. The pandemic wreaked havoc on the world and affected our lives greatly. Our families expanded and contracted leaving us with a sense of hope and a realization of loss at the same time. Tragedy took our youngest daughter. There is no real full recovery from that. Just an adjustment and realization that there will always be a hole there. As believers in eternal things and in the creator, Christ, we continue to learn how to cope. Especially with the fact that all things are not in our control. Understanding the purposes may not be given to us.

Yeah... our lives are changing. So is the scope of the entire world!

Romans 8:28
And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.

Small Town America Series Under Construction

Small Town America Series Under Construction

It's been quite some time since I ventured into the blogosphere! Feeling a bit rusty about this whole thing.

I am constructing a new series that will include some of my older work as well as newer productions and titled "Small Town America". Included here are some examples of the work.

I love hitting the highway and exploring old towns. In September of 2016 it was a drive up the California Scenic Highway, Route 1. This is considered one of the darlings of vehicle travel. Possibly the most popular in the world. The roads took us through Fillmore, Solvang, Cambria, Santa Cruz, Pacifica, and Gilroy, the Garlic Capitol of California.

I've always admired the old perspectives of Norman Rockwell and the way he would strive to capture a bit of mom, apple pie, and baseball. The traditional American themes as he viewed them. My attempt will be at capturing small town architecture and street scenes that are becoming overshadowed by the raucous and overwhelming work of Urban power. Much of this lifestyle is under attack. Critics of the past, traditional structure, tend to stain it without even considering the 95% good that helped to establish this great place that we are privileged to be in. Here are a couple of opening salvos.

Slow down and smell the roses as you travel down the backroads of this great country. Even in the simplistic world of yesteryear there are nuggets of life that are worthy of our consideration.

"When I go to farms or little towns, I am always surprised at the discontent I find. And New York, too often, has looked across the sea toward Europe. And all of us who turn our eyes away from what we have are missing life." ~ Norman Rockwell

Till next time. God Bless !

Redlands San Bernardino is known for more than just Terrorism

Redlands San Bernardino is known for more than just Terrorism

Almost two weeks now since the San Bernardino area was attacked by a worldwide movement of destruction. That was 36 miles from my front door and an area that I have photographed in over the years. I have yet to see the outcry and memorials for this area that I have witnessed for Paris or Boston. Certainly people's lives don't matter less in San Bernardino than they do in the more editorialized and written about Metropolitan areas of the globe... do they? So i set out to give a bit of a small tribute from some of my photos that I have posted for the past couple of years...

"Kimberly Crest Manor , Vintage View" ~ Kimberly Crest House and Gardens is a French chateau-style Victorian mansion located in Redlands, California, and is registered as a California Historical Landmark.

Photography Prints

"Lincoln Memorial Shrine Entrance" ~ This amazing memorial to the great President Abraham Lincoln is the only one of it's kind west of the Mississippi. It is tucked away in the small town of Redlands, California. I found it to be exceptionally well presented making me walk away with a greater fondness for the man and his legacy.

Art Prints

"Kimberly Crest - Victorian Splendor" ~ Another view of this wonderful landmark

Art Prints

"Caroline Park Afternoon" ~ A view from the garden of Caroline Park, Redlands, California.

This is one of those hidden little secrets that resides in the hillsides of the beautiful community. The park is surrounded by residential architectural splendor and boasts a 180 degree view to the mountains. The botanical gardens have trails for hiking, tables for picnicking, and benches for relaxation and a touch of romance. It even boasts a small memorial Redwood Grove.

Photography Prints

I hope that we will continue to remember those who were victims of this terrible tragedy. I also hope that we will remember that they come from a beautiful and cherished area of the Untied Sates Of America. It's a place full of hard working citizens. A boiling pot of America!

God Bless,

Defining Yourself In Art... It Comes In Moments

I was pondering a question I ran across on the blogs the other day about "What Art" really defines me. I guess I would have to answer that question legitimately stating that I am open to attempting to work with variety of mediums and styles. I came into this side of the art world after many years of selling and representing other great artists that were nationally known and recognized. I have since come to realize just how great they were at this craft! Becoming a professional is hard work. If you are faint of heart, or have a fear of rejection, this is not the place to practice those feelings of insecurity.

Having room to roam can be hazardous to one's health if they are motivated by the feed back of others. I can think of several pieces that were emotionally critical at the moments that I worked on them... and all were experimental in nature. They are presented differently... and are part of the ongoing process of discovery and change.

Here's one that I produced while in the midst of losing everything. The result speaks for itself. Lots of moments like these that produced feelings I never knew existed. Starting over, while on the other side of the pendulum, is not an easy task.

Introspection

Art Prints

This was a spontaneous hand drawn work that came about as I finally realized that there are more grains on the fallen side than there were from the starting point. Life is but a drop of water dissolving at a rapid pace. Don't think so? Come back and see me in 30 years.

This digital experiment was a fun diversion. Yes, I am nuts enough to believe that what we see was spoken into existence and order by Intelligent Design! Write me off if you want. Write you off if I am right!

Okay... this is pretty self-indulgent. But it was fun to mix hand drawn work into photographic/digital alteration.

Old vehicles can be pretty nice subjects...

Had a load of fun producing this image through various digital artistry. I have a hard time passing up beautiful old vehicles. I take quite a few photos of them, and work for hours on end to tweak the finishing processes. It's very rare that I have a turn key image. Many images are posted that I just pull out of the line-up in order to reinterpret the original.

I liked the outcome of this particular truck:

Stop And Smell The Roses.....

Stop And Smell The Roses.....

Took a walk with this very beautiful young lady a couple of days ago to feed the ducks at a nearby pond. She was full of energy about it. As it turned out the ducks were not too receptive and instead of gathering about for a feeding frenzy, they fled just far enough to tempt us to sit and wait to see if they would come back. That didn't happen and all the breadcrumbs went to waste. Perhaps french sourdough was more to their liking! Spoiled!

On the way back we noticed this garden of roses in full bloom and full of color. Bursting! Stopped to smell them and it took the sting of rejection from the ducks away! We just have to do that more often in the day. Everything is not a crisis when things don't go our way.

"Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things." More To This Life...Music

We have Christmas barreling straight at us and I wanted to take a moment to reflect about this holiday that brings so much Joy and Hope to Christians around the world, and plenty of goodies for those who celebrate others without the link to Christianity it self.

This part of the year can be trying for so many. We live in a time when there are those who seem to have it all... and then there are those who are struggling to make ends meet. I want to encourage each one reading this to take a moment and listen to this song that Steven Curtis Chapman penned back in the 80's. ( I also included the lyrics so that you can follow along) I want you to know that there is hope beyond the hand of man. A hope that reaches into our very souls if we will let it.

Today I watched in silence as people passed me by,
And I strained to see if there was something hidden in their eyes;
But they all looked at me as if to say
Life just goes on.

The old familiar story told in different ways,
Make the most of your own journey from the cradle to the grave;
Dream your dreams tomorrow because today
Life must go on.

CHORUS
But there’s more to this life than living and dying,
More than just trying to make it through the day;
More to this life, more than these eyes alone can see,
And there’s more than this life alone can be.

Tonight he lies in silence staring into space,
And looks for ways to make tomorrow better than today,
But in the morning light it looks the same;
Life just goes on.

He takes care of his family, he takes care of his work,
And every Sunday morning he takes his place at the church;
And somehow he still feels a need to search,
But life just goes on.

(chorus)

So where do we start to find every part
Of what makes this life complete;
If we turn our eyes to Jesus we’ll find
Life’s true beginning is there at the cross where He died.
He died to bring us . . .
( and because of it there is more to this life)

My Designs On Coffee Cups and Other Accessories

I've been busy reworking my Internet Store with new ideas and with a new idea for some of my older art work. So the Glenn McCarthy Fine Art store at Zazzle has been undergoing reconstruction! (The "Click Here For More Information Button" will take you there)

Here is a rotating panel on some of my coffee cup designs. My traditional work has always revolved around a direct inspirational message. I've been branching out into creating designs along with my art. Of course they are one and the same but in design I am considering patterns with greater weight, while experimenting with new ideas for traditional presentation.

Click on any image on the panel and it will give you the details. I think that the cups have a pretty classy quality and approach in their composition. I hope that you agree!

Black and White Moods...

Don't ask me what I mean by that. It's not that deep. Black and White is just a favorite of mine strictly because it asks the question of "what is the deeper meaning". Instead of filling in all the blanks it challenges me to do it. Color dazzles and puts it all right there, surface in many ways. Black and white pricks the journalistic intuition from our insides. Who lived there? What kind of life did they live? What are they thinking? What events took place there? Questions that cause us to look for deeper meaning.

Cyber Jabber....

The internet is filled with discussions, blogs, rapid fire news releases, supposed facts, wikipedia, images, cyber campaigning, and spam! It can all be found... from religious to pornography to politics. A world of stuff that you can find by dreaming up a sentence or phrase, packing it into a search browser and seeing what pops up. I have been involved in all kinds of conversations and research for the past 10 years. I even opened up my own creative line of merchandise with the use of the new tools afforded to me. ( See my store at Zazzle ) Since I'm not nearly as mobile as I used to be, I can reach to the entire global cyberspace market and offer my wares. I can link up to all of my past friends and enemies to have a reunion. My whole life can be pasted for all to see (...sorry, that ain't going to happen)... and I have instant access to family members that I have never met.

I do think of this as a wonderful thing and try to infuse as much value into it as possible. I particularly love the music and nostalgia aspect to it... and the image sharing and creative process has been addictive at times. IT IS WHAT I DO!

Yeah, this is a wonderful way to travel and have donut store conversation. Can even play chess games and checkers with my cyber neighbors. When the day is done it all flies away into cyber space and the only package I have to carry around is what I communicated under my real name.

Nothing beats a real sunset that hasn't been conjured up in a cyber world....

Keeping The Pace In Lifes Race

August 22nd, 2012

Keeping The Pace In Lifes Race

Several years ago my life took a huge change of direction. The economy had changed, money was not coming into the till, and I was on the brink of total personal collapse. I can truthfully say that I had only faith, the Love of God (towards me), and the love of my family and a few choice friends that were my encouragement. I'll do a detailed journey on that someday... but not today.

Have you hit that crossroad? Feel like you're all used up and lost your grip? Maybe a look in the mirror is what you dread every morning when that sun breaks through! I heard a small voice tell me " use whatever you can grasp " It happened to be pens and paper, oils and watercolors, and a camera. I stood in an empty shop with merchandise that I couldn't get rid of drawing images and showing them to the few that came through. I learned how to use the Internet and joined Fine Art America. I worked on some causes for others. I have developed whatever skills that I may have to a certain degree. Today I'm restoring old photos from extinction for someone, I'm helping another person fit a large particular Image in a prominent place in her home... and yes, I'm working on new release work constantly. I pass out business cards and mingle... unafraid to offer my services.

Today I'm here giving you this encouraging word...

"If a man loses pace with his companions, perhaps it is because he hears a different drummer. Let him step to the music which he hears, however measured, or far away." - Henry David Thoreau, Walden

"For I wish that all men were even as I myself. But each one has his own gift from God, one in this manner and another in that."
- Saint Paul. 1 Corinthians 7:7

"You have a gift and You can use it! Get up and forget what thoughts have been rolling through your mind, say a prayer to God for yourself, and start to use the gift given to you according to whatever means you may have at your disposal! Look for the way to make that water run... and you will find it".

That is for someone out there. I'm praying for You.

True Integrity...

August 10th, 2012

True Integrity...

"When people make promises, they guarantee them by appeal to some authority above them so that if there is any question that they'll make good on the promise, the authority will back them up. When God wanted to guarantee his promises, he gave his word, a rock-solid guarantee—God can't break his word. And because his word cannot change, the promise is likewise unchangeable." The Message, Hebrews 6: 16-18

Harry Truman was famous for his saying of "The buck stops here". Considering the fact that he was the President of the U.S., there was a great amount of weight behind his words. People hang on the words of leaders. In today's society it is not uncommon to find leaders scrambling around covering there exposed behinds because of words that they said that were found to be untrue. Vetting is big business for the News Media! (When it suits their purpose ...of course)

George Bush Senior said "Read my lips... no new taxes." Then he signed a tax increase. President Barack Obama says "I don't support an individual mandate on health care." Then he pushed his mandated health care policy through. Just a couple of examples of powerful men swearing by themselves... but found to be lacking a bit of integrity.

God has all authority. When he swears, He has no other example to use except for His own integrity... who He is! Do you realize that if God had any deception... one sliver of darkness... one spot on His clothes... one chink in His armor... that we would have nothing whatsoever to hang our faith and hopes on? If He had any failures there would be no integrity or solid foundation that we could point to as solid. If Christ had one blemish... one white lie... one failure... the mandate could not be fulfilled!

"For You have magnified Your word above all Your name!" Psalm 138:2 His integrity is the most important facet to who He is. So important that He places it above His own name.

Thank You for being spotless... and trustworthy!

Watts Towers Photos and Video

It had been years since I first saw the Towers. After picking up a relative from the L.A. Airport we decided to go by and take a look at these curious creations on the way back. It really is an impressive sight. The imagination of one man and the years of labor he put into... only to walk away!

I recommend visiting these if you are ever in the vicinity. Just make sure it is during the daytime hours because they are located in about as rough a section of Los Angeles as there is. But in the daylight hours the monument itself seems to bring out the best in everyone as though it were on hallowed ground. It is a surreal experience! Everyone has a reverential attitude. God Bless!

A Short History

The Watts Towers or Towers of Simon Rodia in the Watts district of Los Angeles, California, is a collection of 17 interconnected structures, two of which reach heights of over 99 feet (30 m). The Towers were built by Italian immigrant construction worker Sabato ("Sam" or "Simon") Rodia in his spare time over a period of 33 years, from 1921 to 1954. The work is an example of non-traditional vernacular architecture and American Natve art.

The Watts Towers are located near (and visible from) the 103rd Street-Kenneth Hahn Station of the Metro Rail LACMTA Blue Line. They were designated a National Historic Landmark in 1990.

Rodia reportedly did not get along with his neighbors, some of whom allowed their children to vandalize his work. Rumors that the towers were antennae for communicating with enemy Japanese forces or contained buried treasure caused suspicion and further vandalism.

In 1955, Rodia gave the property away and left, reportedly tired of the abuse he had received. He retired to Martinez, California and never came back. He died a decade later. (Wikipedia)

Surprise At The Cherry Festival... wow

July 9th, 2012

Surprise At The Cherry Festival... wow

Ended up blindly going to the Cherry Festival in Beaumont Ca. Saturday. I had envisioned it being a day of Harvesting from the bumper crop but ended up Paying $5.00 per person to enter into another opportunity for vendors to sell their wares to me. No harvesting because that went out when the water rights became too expensive and the festival dwindled to a fair in some small park in a not so taken care of neighborhood. Well, we wandered through all the vendors... the circus park and such and landed in the bandstand area where a Rolling Stones cover band (that sounded like they had practiced once) was playing. They chased us away for awhile! Finally getting hold of a program we noticed that the Alan Parsons Project was playing at 6 P.M. Honestly, I was not excited because I had not really followed Alan Parsons. We made no plans to stay but wandered back to the band area and listened to the Jimmy Buffet cover band... who were very good. We were just about to leave when the couple in front of us asked if we had come for Alan Parsons and mentioned they were shocked that he would be there. Then another person sat down next to us and parroted the same sentiment. We decided to stay. A good decision. It was a rock opera from a group of polished veterans that seemed completely out of place. They made the best of the confining stage and played a two hour set without break. Yeah, it brought back lots of good memories of music that I knew... but never really attributed to Alan Parsons. I hadn't really realized how much of a mover and shaker he was to so many great bands as their engineer. That $5.00 entry fee seemed paltry now. I recommend seeing this act if you have the opportunity!

The name... Jesus

The name... Jesus

Creating controversy is just what happens when His name is brought up in conversation. I believe He is the dividing line between talking about God and pinpointing God. Thought I would pass along this thought I found while searching about his name. The link to find out more is at the bottom. God Bless!

The Name of Jesus

Over the past 2000 years, more people on planet earth have known the name of Jesus than any other name. Since 33 AD, over 8 billion people, by one estimate, have claimed to be followers of this Jesus—or Jésus or Isus or whatever the Christ is called in your language. Billions more have heard of his name. Presently, the name of Jesus can be found in over 6000 languages and more are being added every year.

On the one hand, it’s strange that this single name has dominated the last 2000 years of world history, especially Western history. For most of us, Jesus has a sacred ring to it; it sounds holy and divine. But this wasn’t the case when Mary and Joseph followed the angel’s instructions and gave their baby his name. Granted, it had a special meaning, but it was not an unusual name. The first century Jewish historian Josephus mentions at least twelve different people he knew with the name Jesus, including four High Priests. In Acts 9 we read of the Jewish false prophet, Bar-Jesus. In Colossians 4, Paul mentions one of his fellow workers, Jesus, called Justus. And some ancient manuscripts of the gospel of Matthew call the robber released by Pilate, Jesus Barabbas, which can be translated, ironically enough, “Jesus Son of the Father.”

Jesus was a common name, like Jim or John or Jerry. When Mary and Joseph called their son Jesus, there were no prayers in his name. No one used it as a swear word. No one sang songs about this name, just like there is no religion I am aware of that sings songs to Jim (except that he’s not to be messed around with). We don’t name our sons John with the expectation that over the next 2000 years 8 billion people will pray in his name. We don’t croon, “Jerry, Jerry, Jerry, there’s just something about that name!”

But common as it was, Jesus was “Jesus” by design. In Greek it is Iesous, in Aramaic, the language Jesus spoke, Yesu. Both are derived from the Hebrew, the name is Yeshua or Joshua. Joshua is made up of two parts: Ya which is short for Yahweh, and hoshea which means salvation. Hence, Mary and Joseph give their little baby the name Jesus, “Yahweh is salvation.”

Which he was. And is. Through Christ alone. Ever since the first Christmas, Jesus has been more than just a name. It’s been our only comfort in life and in death, our only hope in a hopeless world. When you believe in Jesus Christ, the Son of God, you may life in his name (John 20:31). There is, in fact, no other name under heaven given among men whereby we can be saved (Acts 4:12). So naturally, whatever we do, in word or deed, we ought to do in the name of the Lord Jesus (Colossians 3:17). For God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father (Philippians 2:11-12).

But let’s be clear: the name of Jesus is not a magic wand. Chanting it does not give one special powers. The power in the name is the person behind the name. In the Old Testament, names meant something. They were more than badges of identification. They often told others who you were and what purpose God had for your life. So Adam was the first man. Eve was the mother of all living things. Abraham was the father of many nations. Benjamin was the son of his father’s right hand. Moses was drawn out of the water. Peter was the rock. Barnabas was the son of encouragement.

And what about Jesus?

“And you shall call his name Jesus,” the angel told Joseph, “for he will save his people from their sins” (Matthew 1:21). More than a great teacher, more than an enlightened man, more than a worker of miracles, more than giving us meaning in life, more than a self-help guru, more than a self-esteem builder, more than a political liberator, more than a caring friend, more than a transformer of cultures, more than a purpose for the purposeless, Jesus is a Savior of sinners.

“The name of Jesus charms our fears and bids our sorrows cease; tis music in the sinner’s ears, tis life and health and peace.” That’ll sing. “All hail the power of Jesus’ name! Let angels prostrate fall. Bring forth the royal diadem, and crown him Lord of all.” That’ll work too.

I guess there really is just something about that name.

No, not just something: make that everything.

Passing Time In The Zone...

Passing Time In The Zone...

I was a big fan of the "Twilight Zone" and the "Outer Limits". Both had their "what if" science fiction mentality with that Black and White film composition. I read the scriptures a great deal and find that God has this sense of hide and seek with reality to it. The parables of Christ, the opening stanza of the book of Proverbs, the references to finding him in the secret place, and the Apostle Paul telling us that he saw things that he could not even mention to us while caught up in the Spirit. The book of the Revelation Of Jesus Christ is still such a great mystery to us and to many of those scholars that have studied it out. The Apostle John trying to describe things in the best way that he knew how as he moved his writing instrument while looking upon the scene.

Yeah, the Bible has the most interesting "what if's" and mysteries to ponder. They have frustrated us and motivated us throughout the last several thousand years. None have been found to be untrue... and many a prophecy has been fulfilled... and still many more on the block.

Yes, I had a dream that impacted me greatly. It changed my whole perspective strictly because I am not a dreamer. I like to see things in a practical way. Tangible, hands on, physical possibilities. I like to see principles and physics rule the day. But when something is impressed upon your soul and you cannot shake it what else can you do but follow the lead? And if it is God doing it... where could you go to escape? He is everywhere!

So... I decided to not worry about the "God-a-phobes" of this life anymore... a multiplying group. No matter who you are you have to make up your mind about whether eternity exists and whether or not there is a Creator that you will one day see. And since you are reading this there is no way that you can say that you have never been challenged to find out the truth about it. It is just a choice... do I pursue to find out if God is real or do I just write this guy off as a nut job? Your choice... but regardless the clock is ticking.

"And you will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart." Jeremiah 29:13

Resurrection Thoughts and Quotations...

Resurrection Thoughts and Quotations...

I've just gathered a couple of Easter thoughts here for the season. The one thing that I would add is this... for any professing Christian it is a travesty when the powerful Resurrection is not one of the uppermost thoughts in their mind... everyday. It is the crux of even confessing your Christianity!

Does God really love us? I say: “Look to the crucified Jesus. Look to the old rugged cross. “ By every thorn that punctured His brow, by every mark of the back-lacerating scourge, by every hair of His beard plucked from His cheeks by cruel fingers, by every bruise which heavy fists made upon His head God said: “I love you!” By all the spit that landed on His face, by every drop of sinless blood that fell to the ground, by every breath of pain which Jesus drew upon the cross, by every beat of His loving heart God said, I love you. - Billy Lobbs

Easter means that this life on earth is not all there is. Jesus went “to prepare a place for us” in His Father’s heavenly mansions for all eternity. Jesus died for our sins, paying our penalty, so that we could be forgiven. He was resurrected, to prove that death has no hold on those who repent and accept Him as Savior. This life on earth is a prelude to eternal joy with our Lord. Easter is a celebration
of our eternal destiny. ~ Joanna Fuchs

That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe
in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.
(Rom. 10:9)

The Apostle Peter preaching on the day of Pentecost of the risen Savior, says,"God hath made that same Jesus, whom ye have crucified, both Lord and Christ." And He speaks of Him as the anointed One, exalted at God's right hand. The Gospel is the Gospel of the Risen Christ. There would be no Gospel for sinners if Christ had not been raised. So the apostle says, "If Christ be not raised, your faith is vain; ye are yet in your sins" (1 Cor. 15:17). - H.A. Ironside

The entire plan for the future has its key in the resurrection. -Billy Graham

"A man who was completely innocent, offered himself as a sacrifice for the good of others, including his enemies, and became the ransom of the world. It was a perfect act." --Mahatma Gandhi

Break from the compulsion.... people get ready

Break from the compulsion.... people get ready

It's time for that long awaited siesta from this project. It has been a sprint for two and one half years... with the Internet highway and all of it's changes being all consuming. It truly is an amazing way to communicate and share what we are doing with our lives.

This Easter season has been one of much reflection about what is important in my life. Perhaps the loss of a good friend has taken a toll, or watching another long time friend struggle in his marriage... or the expectation of a new addition to my family. Perhaps the grind of conversation over the cyber waves has taken a toll, or the lack of it in spurts. It's so easy to be emotionally unattached here and forget that there are some that are truly made of flesh and bone. I've always tried to keep a demeanor that realized this... knowing that for the Grace of Christ I would be swept up into the world of "I'll say whatever I want and get in your face whenever I want" attitude that seems to be so over the top in today's world, and magnified in this medium.

I love creating... and I love it when someone else likes it and relates to it. I'll still be involved... just much less for this moment. It's a time of reflection... a time to take a pulse reading.

Yosemite Revisited

Learning is a never ending and pressing issue. Especially in a day when technology grows faster than the speed of light. I recently revisited some of my older photos and reworked them with some of this new knowledge. It refreshed memories of my real life experience of this wonderful place also. Here are the four that came first in this new rotation of refurbishment. I only wish I was standing in God's Masterwork right now!

I will continue to refresh these earlier offerings and post them here. My gallery that they are located in is here : Mountainscape Gallery

The Missing Finger...

March 14th, 2012

The Missing Finger...

I don't usually open up "forwarded" messages to me. But I did today to find this story. I guess I was in a storybook mood. Besides, it reminded me of my favorite guitar player who is missing a finger... claimed by an old water pump. (Reworked his image below to update it)

A king who did not believe in the goodness of God, had a slave who, in all circumstances would say: “My king, do not be discouraged, because everything God does is perfect, no mistakes!”

One day they went hunting and along the way a wild animal attacked the king. His slave managed to kill the animal, but could not prevent his majesty from losing a finger.

Furious and without showing his gratitude for being saved, the nobleman said "Is God good? If He was good, I would not have been attacked and lost my finger."

The slave replied only "My king, despite all these things, I can only tell you that God is good, and he knows the "why" of all these things. What God does is perfect. He is never wrong!"

Outraged by the response, the king ordered the arrest of his slave.

Later, he left for another hunt and was captured by savages who made human sacrifices.

While on the altar, ready to sacrifice the noble, the savage found that the victim had a missing finger and so he was released. According to them he was not complete so he could not be offered to the gods.

Upon his return to the palace, the king authorized the release of his slave to whom he said very affectionately:
"My friend, God was really good to me! I was almost killed by the wild men, but for lack of a single finger, I was let go! But I have a question, if God is so good, why did he allow me to put you in jail?"

"My King, if I had gone with you in this hunt, I would have been sacrificed for you, because I have no missing finger. Therefore, remember: everything God does is perfect. HE is never wrong!"

Often we (me) complain about life and the negative things that happen to us, forgetting that nothing is random and that everything has a purpose.

Every morning, offer your day to God. Ask God to inspire your thoughts, guide your actions, to ease your feelings. And do not be afraid. God is never wrong!

You know why this message was sent to you? I do not know, but God knows, because he never makes mistakes.......

The path of God and his word is perfect, without impurities. It is the way of all those who trust in him, as he says in 2 Samuel 22: 31.

Feeling What Others Feel...

Feeling What Others Feel...

I'm not someone who would be a touchy-feely sort. I have go to extra lengths to get in touch with my softer side, even in moments of grief and despair. Sometimes it takes the aftermath of the drama before it sinks in and really grips my inner being. Today is one of those days. Over the weekend this surreal occurrence unfolded with a phone call that one of my daughters was going to have surgery to remove a pregnancy. It wasn't voluntary by any means. She and her husband have been trying to have children for several years and this is the first time that a possibility appeared. Unfortunately it was under circumstances that put her life in peril and left them with no other alternatives. It also left them with what doctors claim to be a slim chance of it ever happening again.

There are lots of things that I cannot cope with... the greatest being to see the hopes and dreams of one of my children being taken away. The last three years have been the toughest. Being unable to do anything aside from supporting and standing in the gap praying can sometimes just leave you feeling empty. Being empty and feeling helpless is hard to bare. This too will pass... and in the end I know that God has something greater for them. I hope to be able to ask Him one day why it is that some of the most qualified and loving (...in my estimation) do not have the same chance as those many who take it for granted and really have no business being blessed with children (...in my estimation). But then again, I'm speaking from one of those times when my emotions have been touched. So... my estimations may not be worth the cyber-page that I have written on.

Revelation 22 ...7 Horses Coming...

February 13th, 2012

Revelation 22 ...7 Horses Coming...

Last night I dreamed of horses
Coming for my soul
Taking me to places
I wasn't ready yet to go

Last night I dreamed of silence
The silence that I keep
All the things I could've said
Well, they stole away my sleep

I need to remember
The horses will come
I need to remember
How quickly they run

I want no regrets
When the horses come for me
I cannot forget
That the horses come for me

Logic Of The Apostle Paul

February 11th, 2012

Logic Of The Apostle Paul

1 Corinthians 15:16-20

If corpses can't be raised, then Christ wasn't, because he was indeed dead. And if Christ weren't raised, then all you're doing is wandering about in the dark, as lost as ever. It's even worse for those who died hoping in Christ and resurrection, because they're already in their graves. If all we get out of Christ is a little inspiration for a few short years, we're a pretty sorry lot. But the truth is that Christ has been raised up, the first in a long legacy of those who are going to leave the cemeteries. - The Message

I ask this question:

Are we a Christian because we grew up Presbyterian... Baptist... Pentecostal... Roman Catholic... Methodist? Or, are we a Christian because we truly believe in the Resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead?

I find the Apostle Paul to be the most amazing of the Bible Apostles. He virtually becomes the spearhead of the Holy Spirit to the world through his tenacity. He never walked with Jesus Christ in the flesh. But he became the biggest apologist for the gospel through a personal encounter after the resurrection. Peter was given a commission to spread the good news to the Gentiles, yet he stayed cooped up in Jerusalem. So, God found another to get the job done. Funny, but Christ chose the very one who was having the Christians killed to confound the ones who walked with Him while he was on the face of the earth. I guess it just proves that yesterdays reality can sit and spoil too. Paul had to come back some years later and set Peter and those in Jerusalem in their place for playing favorites.

So, do we (who confess to being believers) walk as though we are just passing through, or do we entangle ourselves in world affairs that can never be resolved until He finally comes and resolves them? Is He resurrected and "alive"... or is He just a good guy who showed up and preached some nice things? I would venture to say... the latter is not enough to call yourself a Christian. Christianity is not an inheritance!

Relying On Your Inspirations...

Relying On Your Inspirations...

I can't help but wonder why so many artists and photographers are in such constant "please help me with an idea" mode. They reach out to others like a ship relies on it's sales and anchors. No, I'm not speaking of a once in awhile thing. I'm talking every painting, every graphic, every photograph they are asking for creative guidance! If fortification is what is needed at every turn of the road, you are in the wrong business. In fact, that is best attained in a classroom atmosphere where constructive criticism is expected. A big part of finding yourself in this creative effort is inspiration from within. If you are not being moved to continue on and grow in this talent through an inner vision you are doomed for failure and destined to be constantly needing someone to pull you off the ropes. That's not fun!

I know, this is more of a rant than what I would usually be writing on this blog, but maybe it's because I'm on Internet overload.... or too much coffee and sugar. And perhaps it's just because I see supposed artists that have all of these major opinions about how life should be, who should rule our hearts, and who should rule the world... but then they cannot pick a subject for their next creation! Cyberspace is an interesting place! Too much... I gotta sit down and speculate what it's really all about! ;P (Where's my belly button?)

Wow... got that off my chest! I feel better now.

We can now go about moving around the cabin... God Bless!

Rainbow Skies...

Those clouds are angels’ robes. ~ Charles Kingsley

“Nature is a mutable cloud which is always and never the same.” - Ralph Waldo Emerson

“A cloud does not know why it moves in just such a direction and at such a speed...It feels an impulsion...this is the place to go now. But the sky knows the reasons and the patterns behind all clouds, and you will know, too, when you lift yourself high enough to see beyond horizons.”

It Takes More Than Just Showing Up....

Yes, the illustration in the photo really hits home. Anyone can pick up a camera and start clicking away... but it is so much more! Especially in a day where technology makes even the most vacationist photos look good. The stakes are higher than ever, and the competition to get the right image is larger. And with folks struggling financially, art and photography is one option that has been turned to.

In all candor, there are just too many folks out there that do not understand the toil involved from beginning to end on a piece of artistic photography. From setting up the props to sitting in sub-zero temperatures, or getting up at 3 am to travel to the right spot for a sunrise, only to have bad weather blow the entire day! Looking at endless takes and editing... sometimes not finding one image that you feel is good enough to work with. The patronizing and the criticism... so much to get to the real truth.

I have a better understanding today. Buying the best equipment does not make you a photographer any more than picking a bushel full of apples makes you a farmer... Being technically sound does not mean that it will be purchased... as much as capturing the right moment in a sound way...

Develop your gift, cultivate your talent, use the tools afforded you to the best of your ability... and upgrade whenever possible!

Oh...and always respect the efforts of others....

On The Highway...On a Mission

January 7th, 2012

On The Highway...On a Mission

Took a flight out of California and landed in Fort Walton Beach, Florida on Wednesday December 21st. The purpose was to share driving back to the coast with my 22 year old son, who was relocating. I didn't want him rushing across the states alone because I knew that he might get road weary... and, quite frankly, I didn't want a phone call from some authority telling me they had found his vehicle in some ditch! Plus it would be an opportunity to spend some time with him, something that I have not been able to do for the past four years.

I am glad that I went... but man did I learn a lesson about being on a mission... again. He was focused and intent on arriving in California as fast as possible. He did not want to miss the Christmas Holidays in "any" way. As for me, I knew that we would make it back in plenty of time as long as the weather held out. Highway 10 just winds itself right to my back yard... give or take 15 miles. I wanted to stop and smell the roses... at least a little. A road trip to me is an opportunity to record images and view changing terrain. Little did I know that my son is an aggressive driver that had the tendency to drive through driving (barely visible) Texas rainstorms in the fast lane, in the middle of the evening, 15 feet from the bumper of the semi in front of us, my hair standing on the back of my neck, while calmly encouraging me to get some shut-eye on his shift. SHUT-EYE? It was like trying to sleep on the ledge of a cliff! I was glad that nobody was applying their brakes ahead of us... and even more glad when I took the helm! That was the first night. The second night we hit a snow storm rolling through New Mexico... but I wasn't about ready to be caught in the passenger seat. Yes, I'm a control freak when it comes to who is doing the driving.

Along the way I did have the opportunity to stop in New Orleans on a foggy night, almost run out of gas in the middle of nowhere in Texas, catch a beautiful sunset in Texas, a morning sunrise in Arizona, and some highway shots... when my son would allow me to stop for a couple of moments. This is one I caught "On The Fly". Yeah, we made it home in one piece two days and 2150 miles later. I was just hoping to have at least 24 more hours of opportunity! There's lot's more to the story... but that's for another time. Just being with one of my best friends was plenty fine for me... despite his maniac tendencies! (Ha Ha) Definitely took after his mother---> on the driving side :)

Forever looking to expand my dimensions....

Forever looking to expand my dimensions....

For many years I had been considered to be a square, conservative, type of person because of my personal Christian beliefs and more conservative leanings. Being pigeon-holed is never easy, and when I try something new it is not easy for others to believe that I have a taste for something a little more surreal. But being eclectic is fun, and as long as I am not hurting anyone by my enigmatic experimentation... I'm happy. In fact a great friend for 30 years just purchased a couple of my new pieces while also mentioning that he "never realized that I had this talent and desire in me".

2011 was a trying year, but a great year of personal growth in photography, and photographic digital manipulation. I'm pretty exhausted, but pleased with the progress and the fact that interest has picked up. I was just signed into a Limited Edition Agreement with a growing printing and marketing business. (more on that in another blog). I expect 2012 to be even more illuminating and look forward to a new launch in it. I'm making a new commitment to the original Pen and Ink Pointillism that really intrigued me from the outset. Also to re-visit my digital files to upgrade some of my previous releases.

With that said... it's siesta time. Time to reassess... time to take a look at the compass. Leave a message as to what you are looking to do that's different in 2012. Always interested in what is happening with my friends and peers.

Here's a newer black and white release! God Bless!

Dropping Temps along my travel route...

December 21st, 2011

Dropping Temps along my travel route...

I learned a couple of days ago that I was going to be traveling from Florida to California... by car... for the Christmas Holiday. A check of the weather along our route shows that the possibility of a winter storm is substantial. As an adventurous sort, that seems alright to me. But, since we are pressed to make it back into California for the 25th dinner at my mother's home, I hope the sailing will be a little more calm than predicted.

2011 has been an odd year and it seems to be ending on the oddest of notes. Our family is doing non-traditional things for Christmas. The health of some has taken a dramatically different course, others will be in other states, and another year older seems more like 40 with some. One of my daughters told me the other day that she doesn't want to hear any more disrupting news for the year and is just wanting 2011 to go away! Yeah, Christmas is going to be a great challenge this go round... the end of the most difficult of years.

I didn't write this to garner any kind of sympathy. There are always silver linings to find, and obstacles for everyone to hurdle. Just read again about how the holidays are the grayest of times for people on the brink... not the gayest of times. That is my reason for this trip... to help someone in the grayest of times... and hopefully bring lots of cheer to an otherwise dreadful experience. A good friend of mine, a very successful lawyer who underwent a huge bout with depression, found a fulfillment in serving Christmas dinner meals to the homeless at a local food bank. Our church has a Christmas Tree full of peoples hopes written on paper ornaments that can be pulled and addressed by others. Yeah, it's that time of year to dig a little deeper... and in the meanwhile maybe some of my issues will be addressed too.

Acts 20:35

"In everything I did, I showed you that by this kind of hard work we must help the weak, remembering the words the Lord Jesus himself said: ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’ ” The Apostle Paul

Just praying that the weather holds... and perhaps I'll even catch a couple of really nice photographs. Silver lining... you know.

Ramblings On Sunday Morn...

Ramblings On Sunday Morn...

1 John 1:1-4

What Was Heard, Seen, and Touched

1 That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked upon, and our hands have handled, concerning the Word of life— 2 the life was manifested, and we have seen, and bear witness, and declare to you that eternal life which was with the Father and was manifested to us— 3 that which we have seen and heard we declare to you, that you also may have fellowship with us; and truly our fellowship is with the Father and with His Son Jesus Christ. 4 And these things we write to you that your[a] joy may be full.

John, the instrument of this writing, was considered to be the closest to Christ, according to what some scholars and ministers have derived from their study of the scriptures. He was always part of Jesus inner circle and because of it I believe there was a point of view imparted to him that stands out from the others in his writings. He reasons with the reader about his authority, credibility, and humanity to write about Christ... letting us know that he is an expert witness. There is nothing about his approach to his testimony that would smack of some conspiracy to dismantle other religions, governments, civil discourse, etc. He just lays it out there in a God given peaceful, yet authoritative manner... knowing that those who will be listening are looking for the same thing... full joy in Christ. At the time that he wrote these words he is considered to be the last remaining of the original twelve disciples. He was so convinced, as he attests to, that legend has it that he had been boiled alive in oil by those who wanted him to recant his faith... but he survived! Then he penned these incredible words... Truly his wellspring of life must have come from the inside. It certainly didn't appear that he was living the good life vacationing on the island of exile... sipping ruby red wines and gobbling Mediterranean fruit. But he was drawing his life from a different source

St John 14:13-15

Jesus answered and said to her, “Whoever drinks of this water will thirst again,
but whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him will never thirst. But the water that I shall give him will become in him a fountain of water springing up into everlasting life.”
The woman said to Him, “Sir, give me this water, that I may not thirst, nor come here to draw"

That woman realized that she was drawing from a temporary source. She was tired of constantly having to quench her thirst in temporary ways. Life was not settled for her and she was looking for answers... through many different men. This one was not looking for the same thing as the others... but he was offering something eternal...

St John 7:37-38

"In the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink.
He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water."

This living water... was it a doctrine? Was it an earning? Was it a brownie button?

Verse 39 tells us what it is ... Look it up.

About Opinions...

About Opinions...

"A painting in a museum hears more ridiculous opinions than anything else in the world."
Edmond de Goncourt

"All empty souls tend toward extreme opinions."
William Butler Yeats

"Any clod can have the facts; having opinions is an art."
Charles McCabe

"Art is a subject that is inundated with opinions. In fact, that's all it is about is opinions."
Chick Corea

"As long as the reason of man continues fallible, and he is at liberty to exercise it, different opinions will be formed."
James Madison

"Change your opinions, keep to your principles; change your leaves, keep intact your roots."
Victor Hugo

“We probably wouldn't worry about what people think of us if we could know how seldom they do.”
Olin Miller

“The fact that an opinion has been widely held is no evidence whatever that it is not utterly absurd; indeed, in view of the silliness of the majority of mankind, a wide-spread belief is more likely to be foolish than sensible”
Bertrand Russell

“Make sure you have a different opinion and people will talk about you”
Arab Proverb

The greatest deception men suffer is from their own opinions.
- Leonardo da Vinci

I Cut and Pasted this definition from dictionary.com:

1. a belief or judgment that rests on grounds insufficient to produce complete certainty.
2. a personal view, attitude, or appraisal.
3. the formal expression of a professional judgment: to ask for a second medical opinion.
4. Law . the formal statement by a judge or court of the reasoning and the principles of law used in reaching a decision of a case.
5. a judgment or estimate of a person or thing with respect to character, merit, etc.: to forfeit someone's good opinion.

I was just thinking about God's opinion of me. Well... based on the exercise of thought about opinions and definition above He must have thought a great deal about me since he laid down His life for me... according to the scripture. I don't think that I was worth it... but He does. And since God really doesn't need an opinion... because He already has "all" the facts... and a monopoly on truth... I think I'll get in line with His opinion of me... and of you. We are an obsession of His, and not a byline. That's why John 3:16... and 17 are the most popular quoted New Testament scriptures in the world...

John 3:16-17

16 For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. 17 For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.

Are There Greater Highs and Lows For The Artistic?

Are There Greater Highs and Lows For The Artistic?

Not too long ago I had a good friend of mine (well intentioned, and doing everything he could to be uplifting) explain to me that because I have a creative streak about me I have a temperament that can be extreme and that I will experience higher highs and lower lows than others who are more apt to have that everyday lifestyle going on. That thought impacted me more than I would ever have imagined. I gobbled it up as a truth and chalked up many things in my emotions to that effect. But really... was it gospel? Actually...NO! If I accept and predicate the blame of any of my actions on my highs and lows it really ends up being more of a crutch for my feelings. Feelings can be good at times... but really have no brains of their own. We live in a world of oceans... with emotions. They are like the waves of the sea, constantly moving and changing according to the weather. It's everyone... not just the artistic!

I am not what could be called a traditional fundamentalist Christian. I am a Christian that believes in the fundamentals... but as applied by Jesus Christ being in my everyday life in the presence of the Holy Spirit. Everyday is a challenge, and the biggest challenge of all is to hold onto the Word of God despite a flurry of activity that may be against the direction that I am constrained to move forward in. I feel as though I am about to sink... yet I am sitting here in front of this keyboard with a cup of coffee... a 76 degree setting on my thermostat... and plenty of food in the cupboard. I am thankful in light of the problems that others have around the world. But more than that, Jesus said words that I should never forget when the boat is rocking back and forth because of the great swells in the sea... "I will never leave you nor forsake you!" Hebrews 13:5, Deuteronomy 31:6 Besides... if the boat is taking on water... and Jesus is sleeping in it after telling His disciples to "go to the other side"... then everything is going to be fine. The promise of never leaving is intact... just as long as we are with Him. And that doesn't take any kind of work on our part except to acknowledge that we "need Him" and cease from our own mental ascension (workout) that always falls short! We don't make the way... He makes the way. We don't roll up our sleeves and work it out... He has rolled up His sleeves and done "all" the work. Our responsibility is to accept it for all it's worth and live in it. Buy the whole field because the fringes are not for sale.

An Encouraging Scripture Dec 15...

John 10:10

New King James Version (NKJV)

"The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly."

This statement comes on the heals of a "healed blind man" being cast out by the priests of that day because... " he was healed by Jesus"... and on the wrong day! It certainly points out the distinction between what God's thoughts towards us are and what religious peoples thoughts are. Jesus, The Great Shepherd is willing to lay down his life for us... whoever we are... but the religious authorities are willing to cast us out for being healed!

Jesus' intentions are of the highest honor. He proved it! "Abundant" is no small thing.

Remembering Real Heroes....

I just recently have visited Eglin Air Force Base in Florida, March Air Force Base in California, and the Riverside Veterans Cemetary across from the base. I am not a Vet ( and probably would not have been very good in that environment) but I have children who have served in the Air Force, and my Father, Stepfather, and Brother served in the U.S. Army.

There is a solemness that I feel when stepping onto a military base where young men and women are ready to protect our country when called upon. I try to imagine the valiance of those who laid their lives down for this country... and who probably didn't feel real valiant at the time of terrifying conflict. Courage finds its way through fear, and I think to myself about that final sequence in the movie "Finding Private Ryan" where Ryan questions whether or not he was worthy of those fallen heroes. I wonder the same about myself... especially in a day of great inner turmoil that swirls around our involvement overseas, and the constant questioning of the true cause. No matter, they are the true heroes in my mind... God Bless Our Troops!

Scriptural Posters and Greeting Cards

Hi!

When I first delved into the realm of art and photography it was with the purpose of sharing something that has been the greatest inspiration to my life... that being my realization that God was real and that He cares very deeply for all of mankind. My first drawing that was released was the "Hourglass" which took quite awhile to finish and incorporated so many diffrent mini thoughts into it. I truly believe that it's message is one of great importance to everyone who is reading this blog right now.

My newest project is Scriptural Posters and Greeting Cards. I love creation and the vastnesss of God as seen in nature and the universe. I believe it is something that is being forgotten in this world of scientific discovery. There are many that believe that Christians do not accept science, but I find that to be such shallow thinking, and one sided to say the least. I have found also that many involved in science tend to be approaching knowledge from the attitude of disproving God rather than truly seeking for answers to the possibility of His existence. I am firmly convinced of my faith from a realization given to me from an outside source, one as real as the wind which we cannot see yet we know is there. I've combined some of my photography with scriptures that struck me as being appopo as to the moment. I hope that you feel the same way.

I have priced these items below the regular prices all the way around. The gallery can be viewed by clicking here:

Three New releases from a pleasant drive....

The photograph is of Artist Jacqueline Daugherty when she visited our gallery. Behind her is an oil of a French Restaurant scene that she had just finished. The European finish is something that she is well accustomed to since she was born in France... just a stone's throw away from Renoir's residence.

We took a day trip through the San Jacinto Mountains of Southern California to get aquainted with some of our new surrounding area. There are some stunning scenes here with peaks that are very reminiscent of the Sierras and the Tioga Pass route entrance to Yosemite through Tuolomne Meadows. Idyllwild is a great little mountain town that strives to keep the beauty of the surrounding area in tact. It is also a very artsy community that takes pride in it's many galleries and antiques shops. We didn't want to come off the mountain and back into the regular old rigor of civilization! I was stunned at some of the enormity of the area. Having lived in California for most of my life, I was puzzled as to why I had not taken the time to find this diamond that sits not far from the Palm Springs area. Visiting small mountain towns is a favorite pastime of mine. I'm sure to get an earlier start next time around so that breakfast can be as the sun is just cresting Lily Peak.

A battle has been going on behind the scenes...

A battle has been going on behind the scenes...

Art Prints
There is so much upheavel going on in our country and on the world stage today. But the script has been written for centuries and the plan is moving ahead just as it is supposed to. In the Bible it tells us of these things. In Matthew 24 Jesus refers to what to look for. The book of Revelation shows us what is happening and in the best language that John could muster up he describes events that are about to happen. The information age has grabbed my attention. The powers of the government and the technology to track almost everything that we do are growing. Big Brother is becoming more and more real. Ronald McDonald is even under assault! The "we know what's better for you" religion is in the process of becoming mature. Cash money will be a thing of the past soon... and all financial transactions will be done simply through cards. No more paychecks... just transfers to direct account. No more individual success for use of talent... but collective prosperity for all.

Scripture tells Christians in Ephesians 6:12 (Read all of Ephesians 6) http://www.christnotes.org/

"For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places".

The United States of America has been the leader in the world for the past two and one half centuries. The reason for this is because our general foundation was founded around biblical standards of living and morality. There was always a level of comfort for the traditional religious Christian. But scriptural reality tells believers that "we are not of this world" and that we should be transformed out of it by the renewing of our minds. Romans 12:2
As good as the United States is... it is not an eternal system. And because of it's allegiance to Christianity throughout the years, it has been blessed by God. I hope it will continue to be... but I see we have ventured into new ground. Many of our leaders have become puppets to a power that they don't even see. In fact... they probably don't even think of the unseen forces.

Photography Prints

It has reminded me that my trust must be fully hidden in Christ and eternal things. Going to church is not enough. Being good is not enough. Pulling all the right "strings" is not good enough. A complete trust in the blood of Christ and in His word... meditating on it day and night... putting Christ first in all things... fighting the good fight of faith.... putting on the full armor of God... these must be an everyday reality. Those behind the scenes battles are for real... and they are for the hearts and souls of men. Christ is either real and alive... or we are just kidding ourselves. A Godless world wouldn't mind. And the systems of this world are moving away from Christian principle.... with much applauding...

A Ray Of Hope... Shades Of Green Guitar...

A Ray Of Hope... Shades Of Green Guitar...

The first photo is of Artist Susan Rios who visited my galleries to add personal touches to her reproduction limited editions for my customers. A sweet lady, a unique artist, and a mover and shaker for many galleries throughout the United States.

This hand drawn work is a very personal piece because of the circumstances that have risen during the strangest of times in my life. I've always felt that as long as there is life in me there is also the possibilty of greater things. At times the world feels like a concrete and mechanical jungle... but God still helps us find a way as long as we are putting our complete faith and trust in Him. He's not interested in crushing our lives. He's interested in giving us more life than we could ever imagine. This is hard to comprehend when the weight of the world is firmly planted on our shoulders and there does not seem to be any light on the walkway ahead. Still.. Jesus says, " Come to me, all you who are troubled and weighted down with care, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke on you and become like me, for I am gentle and without pride, and you will have rest for your souls; For my yoke is good, and the weight I take up is not hard". Matthew 11: 28-30

This image required many hours and waves of differing sizes of ink pen points. The blade of grass was finished in green.. though at first glance it might not be easy to see. It is the only color added. Probably took a good 250 hours total to finish. I don't count.

There Is Something About The Sky...

I could spend my time just viewing different sunrises and sunsets and everything in between that happens in it. The sky changes everyday and opens up my mind to the vastness of the creation. It also reminds me of how the world does not revolve around me... though convincing my inner man of this has become quite a task. Everything has been made for far grander purposes... and finding out that plan, and functioning in it, is what my everyday is all about.

Maybe this passage is why I'm always looking at the sky!

"And when he had spoken these things, while they beheld, he was taken up; and a cloud received him out of their sight. And while they looked stedfastly toward heaven as he went up, behold, two men stood by them in white apparel; Which also said, Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven? this same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven".

This Caught Their eye....

August 12th, 2011

This Caught Their eye....

So, here I was showing art by major artists for consideration of purchase and this collector (...as defined by their own words) looks up and says they love the posted photograph image. I was stunned! Yeah, I know it is a very nice piece, and it is one of the most treasured items that I have, but it was not for sale for any price! My daughter painted it years ago for us. She was all of 5 years old! I didn't realise that it would stack up with the likes of Dale Terbush, Susan Rios, Marty Bell, Terry Redlin... or Jack Terry. Such professionalism from a young up and coming talent.

Maybe what I ought to do is bring it down to an appraiser and find out its true value. All that education from an expert ought to bring me an idea of how much to insure it for. He can take a look at it through all of his different instruments to make sure that nothing has been altered. He can scrape enough paint from an obscure area just to make sure that the time period of it's authenticity is correct. Then he can charge me for the appraisal and I can give a copy of it to my insurance company. The value of it ought to be enough to use as security for a loan to purchase my new $79,000.00 Audi. Yeah, there are tons of those being sold. Economy be damned!

I really want to thank collectors. They open my eyes everyday as to the flow of what people are interested in. But this one will not be pried from my fingers! It is invaluable.

A Simple Peace...New

I cannot help but look to the creative hand of God each day for that natural blessing that is so elusive to our technological world. We just seem to have too much information shot at us each day. Stock markets ups.... stock markets down. Bankruptcies up... mortgages lost... jobs lost.... polictical finger pointing...flying accusations... it never seems to end. Just makes you want to jump in your vehicle, point it in the best direction, and just keep going!

I decided to rework this photo into a painted finish and allow the soft billowing of the moving clouds be the calming influence as they move across a prestine blue sky. This is from a photo taken in the Lake Arrowhead, California area on about as nice a day as could be hoped for. And it was a great rest from seeing any of the grand news that hits us up along the side of our head everyday. Let the pundits argue it out... while the Master continues to wield His brush.

Something Happening Here... with song

August 11th, 2011

I find this world to be full of contradictions and forced ideology. A recent thread of political discussion got me to thinking of the turmoil that continues to spread in our nation (The U.S.) We keep hearing that things are getting better economically and yet unemployment continues to hover at 9% officially and around 22% plus really. Energy and food prices continue to climb while the value of a dollar continues to decline. Home values continue to drop taking credit possibilities with it.

Where is true value? Reminds me of a scene from "Lawrence of Arabia" where Anthony Quinn is frustrated because he cannot find anything of substance or relevance. He ends the scene walking away in disgust.

I hand drew this piece about two years ago. It was inspired by that same thought... where is true value? Jesus warned us to lay up treasures in heaven and that we should understand that heaven and earth would pass away. We just cannot take all those toys with us, and the old saying "He who dies with the most toys wins!" is nothing but an absolute lie.

"For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?" Matthew 16:26

“I don't need a friend who changes when I change and who nods when I nod; my shadow does that much better.” Plutarch, Greek Author

There are two new releases that I am posting in the blog to show you. Some outrageous skies recently as the sun goes down. The cloud formations, and the ever present feeling of the Eternal Creator behind another fleeting masterwork. I actually look to see if He's using a feather or a sponge to get the effects. Sometimes Simple and Quiet is best...

Sometimes Simple and Quiet is best...

There really is too much noise to deal with in this life. Crying babies, crying newsmen (and newswomen) , screaming singers, high pitched and wailing instruments, blaring sirens, griping and complaining eveythings, and bombs going off in the night. Then the alarm rings very loudly and we have to get up to the dog barking and the telephone ringing. Even the mail...mostly bills... seems to cry louder than ever!

Isaiah 26:3 "You will keep in perfect peace all who trust in you, all whose thoughts are fixed on you!"

I prefer a nice quiet spot to meditate and allow those words to roll through my mind. But... I think that it was meant to help us in all the turmoil of the day. Life really is too short to be stressed about things.... anything!

Solitude

This desert lake in Little Rock, California is not known for it's abundance of trees or vegetation... and has a beauty of it's own despite the lack of green. Caught this shot on one of those quiet afternoons when the breeze was just picking up and the clouds were drifting in. A good day to let it all go for a couple of hours... and perhaps use some fishing gear. John 14:1 Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me.

Free Spirits 1 and 2

I wasn't attempting to capture birds in this release, but my focus was on the majesty and beauty that was streaming through the break in the clouds at that very moment. The birds gliding effortlessly through the sky seem to have been moving upwards, as though spirits had been freed and were on their way to greater things. Their presence in the photo was quite by accident. But, as usual, nature has a better sense of creating a more complete picture. I'm just happy to be a grateful bystander.

And I said, Oh that I had wings like a dove! for then would I fly away, and be at rest. 7 Lo, then would I wander far off, and remain in the wilderness. Selah. 8 I would hasten my escape from the windy storm and tempest.

Touches Of Country Never Hurt Anyone

Anyone who has been following what I do knows that I'm constantly on the highways of California. It might be the U.S 395, Highway 18, or Route 66. They all make their way through the Mojave Desert and the scenery can be breathtaking. Despite what might be seen on the general news programs, California is a state that has it's roots firmly planted in the old west and frontier. It can be witnessed out on the open highway. Forget Los Angeles, San Diego, and San Fransisco... who hog the spotlights. Think Lone Pine, Lake Tahoe, Sequoia National Forest, Mount Shasta... and there is plenty to balance what might be perceptions. Yeah... God created some of the greatest sights just off those highways. And there are still plenty of small townsfolk that live in them.

Prepared Mansions

Prepared Mansions

I was just thinking about this home that I passed by and had the opportunity to feast on with my eyes, and capture with the lens of my camera. It got me to thinking about the song by Kieth Green... " I can't wait to get to heaven, when You'll wash away all my tears; In six days you created everything, but You've been working on heaven 2000 years!"

Yes, home ownership can be a great thing... especially when it is bought and paid for. This old Victorian is really a beautiful home, but there is so much more that is promised for those who do not put their faith and trust in a world where things can be taken away. Jesus bought and paid for mansions for those who throw in the towel on a useless life with no eternal payout... and trade it for "the way, the truth, and the life" John 14:6

"Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me.

In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.

And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also."

Seriously.... be yourself

Seriously.... be yourself

Joined several Artist and Photographers sites the past several years. Found that the world of the internet can be such an unreal place for folks to hide behind masks... or to crowd up in their little clicks. Found that the name you see on the tag is not what's really in the box much of the time, especially when it means to stake your reputation on it. A game... if you will... of one upmanship in the arena of ideas, with a dash if seriousness thrown in.

I must admit to the folly of talking politics and religion. Just in my genes somehow. They are tough subjects for the artsy crowd to engage in without an eruption occuring. Of course, from my perspective, a little too open minded about things. Too much PC for my blood.

In reality, it reminded me of the crowd that has been getting together every weekday morning... at the donut inn. Coffee and a newspaper and a meeting of the heads to straighten out whatever ails this country and it's people. Mostly of old wounded soldiers who just don't like the political structure of the day... and are hell bent on convincing another of the true way out.

The difference is what I see as anonymity. Some will lay their reputation on the line with their ideas. Others have learned to play this game of changing their name, shooting, and then running the other way with no cost or ramification. Renaming themselves with that anonymous name so that they can be "open and honest" without offending a possible purchaser of their work. They can be Tweety Bird instead of Glenn McCarthy. They can say things that they won't own. The internet Klu Klux Klan idea... wear a mask for your noble cause. Anonymity. Something used by infiltrators in the world of ideas... usually to subdue and capture... or to evade if found out.

Just give me a nice photo and a cup of coffee please. The Merry Go Round has to stop! Maybe the internet really isn't that much different than daily life.

Good Day...

Tweety Bird

Who do men say that I am... Revelation Song

Who do men say that I am... Revelation Song

Matthew 16: 13 When Jesus came into the coasts of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, saying, Whom do men say that I the Son of man am? 14 And they said, Some say that thou art John the Baptist: some, Elias; and others, Jeremias, or one of the prophets. 15 He saith unto them, But whom say ye that I am? 16 And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God. 17 And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Barjona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven.

The Shroud is the single most studied artifact in human history. There is no telling if it is in fact the burial linen cloth that was wrapped around the Lord Jesus... but it is still a mystery. I personally find that God likes to leave hidden secrets for us to ponder... and then search for the truth. There is also a certain amount of depth to this particular mystery, and could well be an article that was left behind to always keep the question lingering in our minds.

This digital remake has an eerie yet comforting feel to it. I had quite a time while composing it... looking for color that would bring out the elements and leave it with an old world quality. There is a textured finsh to it. I now have a greater understanding of where the traditional renditions of Christ have their origins. Romans 16: 25-27 states... Now to him that is of power to stablish you according to my gospel, and the preaching of Jesus Christ, according to the revelation of the mystery, which was kept secret since the world began, But now is made manifest, and by the scriptures of the prophets, according to the commandment of the everlasting God, made known to all nations for the obedience of faith: To God only wise, be glory through Jesus Christ for ever. Amen. God Bless!

Black and White Visuals....

Black and White Visuals....

I have mentioned it recently in this blog that I have fallen deeper into the Black and White presentations. Black and White is great for decorating... especially in a home that doesn't lend itself to lots of knick-knack items. It leaves room for interpretation and causes the viewers imagination to work and bite deeper onto the piece... filling in the blanks if you will. I could see it when I was first exposed to the legendary work of Ansel Adams... and of course his Half Dome Yosemite rendition(s). I'm quite familiar with Yosemite and the dome.. but the creative mystery that he brought to us through black and white manipulation leaves quite an impression. If you have seen them you can easily visualize it in your minds recall.

Black and White works well with groupings... and has a certain class when framed under glass... of course with the right frame.

Perhaps one day a McCarthy will be so remembered! Glenn's Biography and Galleries Link

Christ With Cross Pen and Ink... Music

Drew this (The Burden Endured Below) as an inspiration while standing in my store ... a couple of years ago. At the time I was meditating on the sacrifice of Christ and how carrying that cross while the crowds were jeering and throwing things at him must have been more lonely than anyone could imagine. Actually, that is an understatement of epic proportions just on it's own! There is no other story of human sacrifice that even comes close to the events in life of Jesus Christ. The scripture says that ...He was equal with God, in the form of man, but disregarded that position in order to complete his mission. (paraphrased by me Phil 2:6)

Glenn's Biography and Galleries Link

I know that in retrospect... an everyday occurance for me... I am not worthy of the attention that was given to me by God. I acknowledged long ago that I was a person who falls very short of a standard of decency that would give me a good standing before God. Just my thoughts alone purveyed my lack of faith and trust. My faith and trust were always in the concrete that held my feet... or the ladder that had a 225 lb rating that helped me stretch upward. Solid matter... seen with the eye and touched with the hand.

Some years down the line I have come to realize that the scriptures are more solid than anything I can percieve through natural means. My spirit has been awakened, and my understanding has been opened to more than a philosophy... but an actuality.

In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins: 15 Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature: 16 For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him: 17 And he is before all things, and by him all things consist.
Collasians 1: 14-17

We are in the Easter season. I don't embrace the concept of the Easter Bunny... though I like chocolate eggs with marshmellow... and feed the money machine that creates them just a tad. I embrace the most powerful thing that has ever happened for mankind... that being the actions of the Creator to show His love for His creation.

The Desert... New stuff... Horse With No Name....

Though I live in the California High Desert, which is in the midst of a terrible depression, I have found that it yields some of the greatest eye candy that a camera can freeze. No, it's not a tropical paradise. And the wind blows far too hard and always at the wrong time. But... it clears the air for some vistas and sunsets that are hard to match! Yeah, you have to be careful when walking in a wilderness zone. That Mojave Green is not a real nice character. And the 115 degrees in summer is pretty hard to swallow... or should I say "makes it hard to swallow". But those stills can make up for the lack! Here are some pieces I have recently brought to the table. They lend themselves to nice decorative ideas!

Three New Releases... Diversified

Here are three new pieces that I just released in the last couple of days. There really is no rhyme or reason linking them together with the exception that it is my personal work. I appreciate your taking a view. I'm always looking to expand and do something a little different.

My personal favorite is the country landscape scene. Black and White just leaves alot for the imagination to conjure up. But the colorful springtime brings a little cheer, and should be something that the ladies would be refreshed by ... while I'd love to be riding in the vintage auto during one of those sunshine days! Gave it a graphic-like digital finish.

Have my first new hand drawn, pen and ink artwork coming up next week. My finger has finally healed from the injury that made it a hard task to just hold a pen. It is a faith based impression.

The Old Mare... First Horse

March 30th, 2011

I was fortunate to catch a break in the day and decided to head up to the Leona Valley, just outside of the Southern California desert. It was just the right time for catching long shadows and colorful skies. The weather was picture perfect too as I worked my way along Lake Elisabeth Road. I was able to capture some farm photos, lake photos, and old church building photos of the back roads areas. On my way home I was greeted by this wonderful creature who just seemed to be talking to me with her eyes.

The Old Mare

Description:

Having pulled to the side of the road I noticed this old mare took an interest in me and seemed to be beckoning me over for some attention. As I caught several photos she even seemed to be posing and giving me different facial profiles. A smart animal to be sure. God Bless! John 3:16-17

Just Over A Year Ago...Music Too

March 27th, 2011

It was February of 2010 when I first came into the Fine Arts America experience. In one year I have learned lots about the world of artists and photographers... on the Internet. I specify this because there is a distinct difference between a face to face meeting and a meeting of letter and pictorial proportions from cyberspace. I say this also because there have been times that this obsession of working the screen seems as big as life itself. That is a very scary thing.

Recently it has been the world of Black and White that has captured my attention. In fact we were watching an old 1940's Black and White the other night and I realized that color would have ruined that motion picture. Filling in the blanks (mentally) of the missing color was part of the enchantment. The gowns were totally outrageous (..this was a Fred Astaire musical) and the lighting and sets were incredible. The movie itself would have taken a step down if it had been color. I can understand why the "colorization" movement took a dive.

So here are a couple of recent Black and Whites.

Responding to TV Disaster Unfolding...

March 15th, 2011

I had written earlier about how this disaster that hit Japan was played out on TV right in front of me. The scene, being real, was simular to watching a movie for me. I have seen this stuff for years... and even paid for it! Unfortunately I found myself having a hard time feeling emotion, though I could see folks that were as big as a pinpoint, scrambling from their cars as the wave just rolled over them. All that preconditioning from the special effects teams had also conditioned my emotional response mechanisms. Thank God for the understanding that I can still pray and move in understanding to help in whatever way I can.

I pray for all those who are suffering as a direct result of this catastrophic occurance. Though we might question why... there is always something that is a lesson learned.

Look Across The Landscape...

March 8th, 2011

I have my Television on as I'm writing this and wondering to myself "what was life like before all of this stuff!" Was it really that boring? Was there a real big problem with getting to know other people and being entertained just by having many friendships? I noticed it happening not too long ago... technology was invading my personal space and isolating me. I didn't have to deal with the personal confrontation of discussion and debate. I could just do it by the internet with folks that I really don't know! As it is I learned that this computer is a great place to hide behind the hedges and throw great stones at passerby's. I had quite a few hit me in the head! Thank God they're not real... or I would be pushing up roses today.

I was reading a comment from some poor soul recently that was lamenting this unfulfilled void that she felt from computer relationships.... though she went on to say that she loved most of her computer friends. What? Loved? How can anyone of us really know what someone is like unless we spend time with them. I think "Love" is such a misused word. Maybe there needs to be some kind of word that defines "the new meaning of love according to the computer".

Yes... this new additive behavior can be a real challenge, especially if that is the way that business is conducted too.

Oh well... at least Borders still has books to read. What? They're about ready to close down? Well time for a break....

Another abandoned property in a valley of beautiful sunsets across golden fields in the desert of California. I have this great longing to enjoy the theatre of nature in a more lingereing fasion. A nice outdoor seat on a 75 degree day... with a warm cup of brew. Life just moves too fast.

I can see for miles.....

March 8th, 2011

I stood at the top looking through the canyon, over all the different ridges to the distant fading hilltops. Felt like I could see forever. What a beautiful day in the mountains of Southern California!

Really, life is like that when we have a clear view. With the events that are coming so frequently and in rapid fire paces in the world today, I think that sometimes we just give up because of all the smoke that gets in our eyes. I really do believe that all this technology and great knowledge is killing the sensitivities that we truly have for a great God given... natural day.

Todays News... Snippets

March 8th, 2011

I was just breezing through the news headlines on the internet and it dawned on me why I would rather sleep in when the morning hits. I've never been a good early riser anyways... and I've never been very good at going to sleep before the wee hours of the morning... after I've digested life for another day of the good ship planet Earth.

So here's todays headlines as per our friends from MSN.com... Tell me what is so good to go with that cup of brewsky?

Search: Confederate Flag Controversies ... are we still drilling the country about this stuff? I realize that there are problems when some folks see this flag... but can't we move on? I haven't seen it flying in California for quite some time... if ever. To frontpage it as though it is a relevant news story just stirs up more hatred.

Ex-NFL QB faces foreclosure... So a nominal NFL Quarterback is losing his home. Why do I need to know anythng about it? Doesn't this guys life and personal stuff just belong with him. He's already hurting man... and I don't care to hear of his problems. Leave him alone.

Witnesses: Dozens killed in Libya battle.... And it just goes on and we think that dozens killed is something strange? But the next story is part of the result of this growing problem... and the problem we have as we suckle at the breasts of the OPEC cartel and ignore the resources in our own backyard.

Stocks dive as oil prices climb again ... expect to see this continue to happen without a cap.

Plus: Gas hits $4... how wonderful... this should keep everyone from going out and continue to seperate the haves from the have nots. Of course... we should be happy that it's not $7.50 like it is in Europe. We'll catch up to them sooner rather than later... barring a miracle of sanity.

Why do we care about celebs?... I don't! They're hoisted on me like a screaming child onto their first Pony. Somehow these people make their way into our lives and are deemed important. Charlie Sheen plastered all over TV... looking rather gaunt... and claiming to be a good father. At least he's honest about his rather peculiar lifestyle. Then there's Mel Gibson or Natalie Portman... or Lady Gaga. How about Pawn Stars? Yeah... the new cookie cutter style programs that are filling up the airwaves. Storage Wars... Auctions.... Pickers. I liked one at the start... but then I realised they all talk the same and the dramatics are just so staged.

Then there's that little blogger over there in the art thingy... who cares?

But I did save a bundle by switching my auto insurance to....

Rusty, Old, Vintage... whatever

March 8th, 2011

Why was it that just a few years ago many of these old items looked like a pile of junk? Maybe they still look like a pile today too! But when a little snippet of space in still life is allowed to speculate once again... they get a another life in the spotlight. Whatever the case may be... I know that to be surrounded by a previous life that was not quite as threatening makes for a comfortable scenaro.

Some newer pieces...

The Old Firetruck had many confrontations with danger in it's time. Now it's facing the greatest challenge of all... the clock and the elements.

Art Prints

The display was already pretty vintage before it was hoisted onto the rooftop of the old Bottle Shop store just off Highway 398... the Pearblossom Highway. Now it's just crumbling in the extreme conditions. The shop is closed now and looks like it belongs in one of the old ghost towns that litter California.

Sometimes I just run across the darndest things... like this. I suppose there are quite a few contraptions out there that would bring a question mark to my mind... like what "exactly" does it do? Regardless... it's a great subject for those who love old things... and rust.

A Glimpse at Life With $10-per-Gallon Gas ... Can you imagine? Let's all sing that tune from John Lennon. Imagine all the people trying to live their lives at $10.00 per gallon... within the next couple of years!

Gas up 33 cents — 2nd biggest jump ever... and the parade is just starting overseas. Our insulation becomes less effective everyday... yet we still refuse to do something about our own energy resources. Seems like yesterday that T-Boone Pickens was touting our natural gas abundance! Who bought him off?

Penn thanks Chavez for aid... I really do think that we should just relent and go ahead and give Chavez the "emblem of peace and humanitarian of the decade" award. Truly a motivation of love oozing from every one of his pores. There are no hidden agendas.

Arctic plant blooming earlier... another proof that the globe is warming. Just like the proof that we evolved fom apes is true because of the viral YouTube ape that walks on two feet uprightly every once in a while... when his two hands are full.

Skippy peanut butter recalled... not another peanut butter shortage! What will we put on our crackers?

My bad: NBA star changes tune after bashing BYU... I can't believe that a qualified NBA player would retract his statements about a colleges standard of ethics. Once he got into the NBA didn't it certify his speech as being authoritative... on all subjects... including the recommendations of legal drugs and automobiles? Kinda like Tiger Woods?

Well... with all these things that are so hard to explain going on... God still continues to create wonderful sunsets that we get through the haze from time to time!

Off The Beaten Path A Bit...

Off The Beaten Path A Bit...

I decided to take a quick break from the photo images that I've been working with and do a little experimental play with digital. It's good to take this kind of a break and to be able to work with some different "creative juices" for a moment. There are two new releases here that I had fun with and give a little bit of a twist to my offerings at the start of this new year. My hope is to stay away from repetitive images of the same subject matter. Many photos might be taken in the instantaneous shoot... (which is what I do). Very few are planned or staged. I go through many photos taken of the same subject to get to the right one. The rest are saved for a visitation at another time. Much care is taken to assure me that the photo is distinctly the Glenn McCarthy style. The angle, the lighting, the subject, and the feeling. To transport the viewer to that moment is important.

Anyhow... here's a couple of different creations.

Hope you enjoy. God Bless!

Family Portrait

The Vases and Bottle lined up almost as though they were a family having their portrait taken. Inanimate objects tend to take on such a life of their own when captured and highlighted in photography or painting. Almost seems as though they could just begin a conversation with you. ( Say Dad... you need to straighten that bow tie!)

Retro Futures

An experimental venture that was manipulated on a lap top standard "Fix It" viewer type program. I was playing around and liked the raw, bare bones, inexact science that it offered. The lack of clarity is cool:) Oh... and the two for one burgers were awesome. (Retro Futures was the slogan for the overhaul of a very popular fast food chain.)

Why I Do This

February 19th, 2011

Why I Do This

So much gets written about "reasons for art and photography". Sometimes I think it's just too deep a question. As I look over my body of work I can see that there are pieces that are with heavy messages and others that are things that I personally just enjoy and through them I have an opportunity to share a beauty or memory. It's not just one particular reason and I notice that those who are in the profession of art or photography are sometimes caught up in a philosophy of "how it must be" or "how it should be". Great arguments arise over what is art and what is not art. Is computer rendition really a form of art... and should computer painting be called painting since there are no raw materials involved?

I've come to the conclusion that why I do what I do is because I really want it to bless others. Just making myself happy seems somewhat hollow... although the journey to a new release can be a very enjoyable ride. But when someone connects with it I seem very much more fulfilled. And when someone discovers something new that they like... it is like I was just given a glass of cool water on a hot day.

Here are a couple of new release photographs that are straight shots without any embellishment or cropping. Hope you enjoy!

American Picking.... Old Stuff

February 15th, 2011

American Picking.... Old Stuff

The program depicting two men and co-horts travelling the back roads of America is amusing and interesting for those who are into memories and nostalgia. I was rolloing through Littlerock, California and stopped into one of my favorite junk stores... or should I say... vintage clutter collection stores... and was shocked at what I had found. This little place... named "The Orbit" has never been cleaned... it has never been tidied... and the dust is as much a part of the pickins as the pickin itself! But times are changin! I walked through the barn like (ghost town looking) front door and things were magically put into an orginazation. The owner (who is usually reading a book very quietly, sitting next to the stove heater, and looking like he just got out of bed) was sitting dressed and shaven and having a conversation with another gentleman while having a cup of coffee. He almost looked like a businessman! Now... that is not to be judgemental in any way, and part of the dust charm has always been him... or was that part of his marketing strategy? Maybe he had a religious conversion of some kind! Maybe he had a date with the backroads fellas from the Cable Phenomena... and perhaps an audit by the IRS was in the air! All I know is my world is changing too! Last year Tony Curtis passed away...(...the guy with the perpetual youthful face), a few weeks ago Jack LaLanne left this world (...is that physically possible?) and now "The Orbit" has changed! What is the world coming to? In all seriousness, if you are ever in Littlerock, California, go by this place. It's the one with the funny World War One Rocket Launcher in the front!

I hope that old things will not continue to pass away so fast. I notice that there are quite a few commercials on the tube that pan older things...older people... and older ways. I happen to think that they still matter and have a little more depth and concern that go along with them.. Just something to ponder.

Loving Vintage Things... New Releases

There is just something about the late 1800's and the early 1900's that is so appealing. Old stuff from the Industrial Revolution just seems so vintage and curious. There wasn't the same feeling of being sleek and slick as things are today. They were big and bulky. They performed the task. There were loads of moving parts, gears, chains, wood, and cast iron. What there wasn't was "super quick" and "plastic". Nobody would understand "motherboard" or "megabites"!

Here are a couple of New Releases dedicated to the past:

The Old Water Wheel was an unusual sight, created by the same company that brought us the steam powered automobile! The vintage look of the piece (with it's rust seemingly placed on it by the brush of an artist) and the memories of a different industrial age, was just right for a great outdoor portrait. The trees seem to be dancing as if the wheel was orchestrating a tune. Back In My Days

Out Of The Way Places

January 26th, 2011

Out Of The Way Places

I’ve come to realize just how much I love the old out of the way places that have been abandoned over time. It may be because I see so much of it here in the desert… or just a leftover from my younger years when my father would scour the desert or mountains in his old World War 2 weapons carrier that he had found in an old junk yard and rebuilt. It was a vehicle that didn’t need created roads! There were the old gold mines…. the deserted old homes and businesses located on roads that dried up because of new highways. Somehow they always seemed to be behind a small rock hill, in a forgotten valley that very few frequented, or at the top of a dirt road that led to the logging camp. Yes, I met the old man of the mountain!

I thank God for those times because it opened my eyes to appreciate and admire His great handiwork in nature and the imagination to reminice about what life may have been like in days gone by. It continues to remind me that we are only passing through, leaving behind marks that we were here. John3:3-6 God Bless!

Took a day trip up 395 to Mount Whitney

January 26th, 2011

Took a day trip up 395 to Mount Whitney

The plan was to get up early and hit the road for a 160 mile trek into the Mojave Desert to Lone Pine, California. Mount Whitney is the highest peak in the lower 48 states rising to over 14,500 feet. It has been the backdrop for many of Hollywoods western films, and the area is full of history and old stuff! I love old stuff! The Alabama Hills (just below the mountain base) are an experience that comes straight from the Outer Limits. The Sierra peaks were full of snow and the portal road was closed pretty much at the foot of the mountains. Stopped in one of the lower campgrounds to check for some good vantage points. After getting out of the car and starting up one of the trails I noticed some rather large animal prints along with some smaller siblings. Bear! I decided to move to another spot higher up the road. The weather was kind to us and U.S. Highway 395 trouble free.

Some of the photos are in the slideshow. Working on more! Enjoy!

Goals For 2011

The year of 2010 is coming to a close. To all of you out there that had a fantastic year... “I salute you”. To the many who are left scratching their heads and wondering out loud, “What the heck is going on?... I have joined you”

"2010 was the most perplexing year that I have ever experienced. It is the first year that I really began to take the my art seriously ... and maybe the hardest of times to do it. “A blessing in disguise” as many would say! The lid is put on any more new releases for this year... only tweeking and adjusting what is available.

I made the decision to step back and take inventory of what I accomplished with my art and my photography for the year of 2010. It has been a very long and hard year because of all the personal environmental changes that have been encountered. I’m making new goals for 2011.... yes, before the new year begins! The first is to take the time and make sure that each photograph, each digital rendering, and each hand made item it is to my liking before I put it out for the public. 2010 was an experimental time. Rushing only leaves room for improvement and sets a standard that may be less than what is acceptable.

So I’m determined to

...Delay new releases until they have been thoroughly gone through, adjusted, and critiqued.
...Improve the equipment and software
...Continue the education process
...Make new friends
...Expand my internet reach past Facebook, Fine Arts America and Zazzle. See my store at Zazzle
...Share the gift that God has given to me... and hopefully touch a few lives with it.

Altered and Remixed...with Music accent

Altered and Remixed...with Music accent

I used to think I was really big on words and description, but somehow it has recently just left my ability shelf of confidence. It's this moving... into new realms... on a daily basis thing that is hammering away at me. 2 1/2 years ago I embarked on a journey, into the art unknown, with pencil, paper, ideas and inspirations. Sure... there were some oil and acrylic paintings I had experimented with over the years... and yes... there were old canvas oils that I had purchased and repaired... but nothing has been as spell-binding as photography and digital manipulation. All of my photos that have been reinterpreted have come from either a throw away camera, or a 3 .0 to 5.0 Megapixel camera... and an outdated 2002 photoshop program that I am still learning how to manipulate! Maybe I'll graduate to 2003 versions before long... or before they are no longer available:) I say this tongue and cheek... and I am very thankful for all the resources that have been made available to me.

Here are some of my recent releases.

I was playing around with an original photograph and wanted to work it into a surreal setting. Don't we just get a little worn out by reality? So I worked a little from reverse... and cropped in an eagle, or two, from another photo I had taken. The result is interesting... might even say it looks surreal southwest. Thank God he gave us imaginations.

I wanted to achieve a scene that was full of color, and at the same time portrayed a sense of peace and awe. The lake was quiet and the waters were rippling as a slight breeze was pointing to a change in the seasons. There was a chill in the air and the clouds could be seen gathering just on the other side of the mountains. It was a perfect setting to capture through my lens.

Black and White... A little music

Black and White... A little music

I have become pretty enamored with Black and White photos that have a little bit of that early last century feel. Since I live in Southern California I have the luxury of a constantly changing terrain. I can be in Newport Beach at 10 AM... Downtown Los Angeles at 11 AM and at 11,000 feet at 12:30 PM. Fact is... I could then be in the High Desert by 1:15 PM. 3 hours and 15 minutes of quickly changing enviroment.

I invite you to take a look at my new Black and White portfolio gallery on my personal web page www.glenn-mccarthy.artistwebsites.com

My Back Pages... Younger than that now...

My Back Pages... Younger than that now...

I was just thinking about sitting in a bar and grill enjoying a meal at the beach in Lahaina watching the waves roll over a beached sailboat when this song came on. It was at the right time... in the right place... with the right person... and the perfect scene. It was the perfect temperature... and a gentle breeze was blowing. It got me thinking about my life in a different way and brought me closer to the reality that time was moving quickly. I only hope that the rest of my life will be more meaningful than what has gone on before now. There is an eternity to look forward to... this is closer to the beginning.

Pencil....Digital Recomposition Gotta Serve Somebody

December 18th, 2010

Pencil....Digital Recomposition Gotta Serve Somebody

I recently released an image that I had drawn in pencil... scanned... and then put through a digital maze and paintshop. The original image in the scan was very hard to pick up with my limited resources (The glass on my scanner has fogged up from the inside. Didn't have the time or inclination to take it all apart). The pencil just wouldn't take as I wanted it to.

But the digital remake came out remarkable!

A creation from hand to computer that takes on a life of its own, and created completely from scratch from start to finish. (Original Post in May). IXOYE has been a popular piece, and because of the computer resource I have been able to render it through new incarnations of the 2nd and 3rd generation. Note: 1 and 2 have been upgraded on November 8, 2010.

Philippians 2: 9-11 "God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: 10 That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; 11 And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father." Great Song...Time Gone By....

Great Song...Time Gone By....

In a nostalgic mood....

I once hosted a concert with Bob Bennett. He was Christian Artist Of The Year at that time for his album "Matters Of The Heart". This song is from that collection and is one of those sit back and contemplate pieces. Just every day life. Have a listen if you've never heard it... and close your eyes. This album is still considered one of the essentials from the Christian market. Not alot of preaching... but alot of God. It's worth the time.

The Photograph is from 1916, Llano California Community. If you look at the Fireplaces you'll see the ruins from some of my photographs that have been digitally altered. Sample below:

Photography and Digital Art...

December 18th, 2010

Photography and Digital Art...

Many people do not accept photography and digital as an art form. But the time spent can be extreme. One artist here on FAA was mentioning that they spent up to 40 hours on their digital/photography presentations. And by the fine work that she does, I believe it. There is time spent. There is energy expended. There is a learning process. And there is a Recycle Bin that gets used very often.

I love to experiment with many different styles... and I am surprized at some things that just happen while exploring. Here are some variations that have developed just recently.

I gave this one more of a Pop art touch.... but with an traditional painting mixture... (read more about it by clicking)

Thanksgiving...always thought provoking...

Thanksgiving...always thought provoking...

Just going to warn you... I'm in a preaching mood today!

It's coming up on Thanksgiving! This is my personal favorite of all the Holidays because it isn't all about things but about people... important people. Family... friends... community... and God! It is about bowing my head and acknowledging. It is about safety and security. I think of this fantastic gift given to us here in the United States of America and the freedoms that are unmatched anywhere else in the world. It was ordained from God that such a great nation would be created that would be the hope of the world... We need to pray to the "Living God" for this country!

Sell Art Online

I'm thankful that Christ continues to pursue my soul and gives of Himself abudantly! I am not worthy of this attention. He cannot be outgiven, He cannot be upstaged, He cannot be outwitted, and He cannot be hidden from. Nothing is a secret.... for he knows the secrets of all mens hearts. He has made the foolish wise... and He is catching the wise in their folly. He is true, pure, and just. He is not like a man... with motives that go astray. If there were any speck of disingenuosness or falsity in Him... he would not be worthy. He is held by His own law... and He is the only one who has lived up to it. I cannot imagine a man living in this life who did not commit an act of unrighteousness or even think a thought of it. Jesus asked the question " Who of you doth convict me of sin? and if I speak truth, wherefore do ye not believe me?" John 8:46... or " Which of you is able truly to say that I am a sinner? If I say what is true, why have you no belief in me?" ... in an everyday language translation. Point is... if one speck was found in Him the whole thing would have been a wash. He would not have been worthy to be the "Lamb of God". How many of us can say that we have been true to our mission without wavering or even questioning it? Try 33 plus years and the whole world against you!

Well... I guess I'm on my high horse :)

There are so many that say that Jesus was a good man... and they even will point to some of his benevolent words. But they cannot accept that He was the Son of God. I would say that if the recorded words in scripture are true... than Jesus is either the Son of God or the biggest fraud ever. He cannot be a good man and be a liar at the same time.

"Happy is the man who does not go in the company of sinners, or take his place in the way of evil-doers, or in the seat of those who do not give honour to the Lord. But whose delight is in the law (word) of the Lord, and whose mind is on his law day and night. He will be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, which gives its fruit at the right time, whose leaves will ever be green; and he will do well in all his undertakings." Psalm 1: 1-3

New Image Releases: He Shall Give His Angels 4/ He shall give His Angels 5

To Tell you the truth, I don't ponder too heavily on angels. But the subject of the unseen (at least most people think of it as unseen) is an important one in the scriptures. Fact is, the scripture tells us to "Be not forgetful to entertain strangers: for thereby some have entertained angels unawares." (Hebrews 13:2) This has made me think really hard when having an encounter with a stranger.

When a Son gets military leave.... Tribute Song

My son came home from Florida for a leave for his 21st birthday. I couldn't be more pleased or proud. Been feeling like a piece of me has gone away for the past two years. He left a young boy... he has now become a true man. If you're reading this... stop and say a quick prayer for our young men and ladies that are poised to defend our country. It is an honorable endeavor that they seek to fulfill. They stand between freedom and dominance.

I have been a big fan of Phil Keaggy... Guitar Player Extraordinare... since I was 18 years old.... that's 37 years ago! I was so excited at the time to find his music because I had just been born-again into my Christian walk... and I wanted to leave behind some of the old music that had me linked into the drug culture and everything that goes along with it. This guitar player was playing this awesome Christian music and still free from the stuffiness that I felt was part of that old time religious affair. He still is going today and in many opinions is the greatest guitar player on the planet. I can testify that there are many days that his music lifted me. Just the sheer excitement he has while working the instrument is enough. Watch the clip and you'll see why....

Simply amazing! And what's great about it is he plays a wide variety of styles... He has a wonderful website and store @ www.philkeaggy.com

Living in a bubble... but

Living in a bubble... but

Just thinking about a statement made to us recently about how we are living in a bubble. Got my mind rolling... and I realised that the statement is true. We all have boundary lines... some of our own choosing... and some just there because we have a hard time crossing over or we are limited by circumstance. We're all people living in spheres.

God even holds our spheres gently in His hands. We just have to keep on pressing... seeking... knocking.

I love the Yosemite and Bass Lake areas of California. These are truly places that make one ponder the great creative imagination of God. This is the closest thing I could do to bottle up feelings and memories to surround myself with in my own enviroment 400 miles away! These photos and the layouts have been all taken and assembled by me. The Accent pieces would go well in an arrangement together or with single photos from my collection. Would be fabulous for a Cabin setting. The same layouts are also available in Black instead of the woodgrain.

"The Lord possessed me in the beginning of his way, before his works of old. I was set up from everlasting, from the beginning, or ever the earth was. When there were no depths, I was brought forth; when there were no fountains abounding with water. Before the mountains were settled, before the hills was I brought forth: While as yet he had not made the earth, nor the fields, nor the highest part of the dust of the world. When he prepared the heavens, I was there: when he set a compass upon the face of the depth: When he established the clouds above: when he strengthened the fountains of the deep: When he gave to the sea his decree, that the waters should not pass his commandment: when he appointed the foundations of the earth..." Hourglass thoughts....classic song.... random ramblings

Hourglass thoughts....classic song.... random ramblings

Photography Prints

Hourglass was a piece of art that I was really just "felt compelled to do". Maybe because I began to realize just how fast time is moving and that the thought that "there is always tomorrow" might not neccesarily be true. It had to be about those sands of time that are measured.... something that you can visually see... unlike a clock which indicates...

World events were on my mind. This turn in the economy was on my mind. What can I do in these "new realities" was on my mind. (We live in a very depressed economic area) As I began to realize how swift changes can be made it dawned on me that the Bible talks of change that is coming and how it will effect our world and what God's purpose is in it. I have never been a person to follow the train of thought that the "world is coming to an end", and I have never been one to purport that I understand the times and the seasons. I have not been what I considered to be an alarmist about what believers call the end times. Why? Because there are so many voices that have done great study on the subject and have come to differing conclusions. Besides... all previous date predictions never came to pass! I don't want t be included with those who missed the mark.

This time I sat down with my Bible and read through the book of the Revelation of John. I personally began to see how the times seem to be coming to some kind of culmination and how information and technology play an important role in it. I began to come to a greater understanding of how there is a great force behind the scenes... manipulating the world system... manipulating peoples minds... causing a disruption in common sense thought. I could see that there was a force that took evil and made it look as though it was good... despite my eyes telling me what it really was. I could see through our government that we were moving towards nonsensicle laws and chomping at the bit to create a whole new morality. I could see that the new movements were intolorant of Christianity ... but used that same label of "intolerance" towards Christians.

On the other hand I began to realize that it was really about me getting my life squared away with what ever time was left for me. Grasping onto what I believe to be true... and being true to it. The story is what I filled in around the main subject. Events that are important to understand from the perspective of the scriptures. I'm still working out my life... lots of creases. And I'm still in astonishment at how true the Bible is... and convinced more than ever that we are getting close to the end of the road for this present age...

Reworked Images... great song too

One was Pen and Ink Pointillism while the other was an oil painting which looked quite different. I'm inspired by what can be accomplished through computer programs. Total transformation from the original form... yet still labor intensive. Lots of wear and tare on the eyes.... but a welcome challenge. Enjoy the Music!

Locked the door for the final time...

August 3rd, 2010

Locked the door for the final time...

Well... 8/2/2010 will be a day that I will hope to remember fondly as a final farewell to my 21 year foray onto the world of art galleries and collectibles. It's kind of bitter-sweet, a relief and a burden. We're now wandering into a new frontier... a land that we have never been. Starting over. Just had a conversation with another lady who had an Antique Store in San Luis Obispo that closed down. She's starting over too. The new trend. A "fad" for those over 45 years old. Had a lady stick her head in the door and offer her condolences for the business and remind me that "President O'bama told us it would get worse before it got better... and that he had a genious plan that would get us all back on track!" Yeah... "we create the wealth... he distributes it". The forced "love thy neighbor method". I think I'll pass on trusting what he's doing.

Meanwhile... businesses are closing left and right in this neck of the woods. Fear is in the eyes of the elderly. The increase of those who are on the streets has risen dramatically. Can't go to a gas station or food store without an encounter from someone who is asking for a hand. And there are those who choose to keep their heads stuck in the sand and deny what we're really facing collectively in this country. When the pouch is looking super thin... the realization will hit. And History may not be repeating itself this time around.

Best thing to do today is the same thing that we should do everyday..."And they that know thy name will put their trust in thee: for thou, Lord, hast not forsaken them that seek thee". Psalms 91:10 or "Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding". Proverbs 3:5

We need to return to the Lord. That Lord is Jesus Christ.

Tried our best to help...

July 28th, 2010

Tried our best to help...

Last night was a little strenuous. Attempted to try and help a young lady that seemed disoriented and completely lost. Now... I am not too into helping folks that are drunks and vagrants that sit around professionally asking for money to propogate their habit. This lady seemed a bit different... as though maybe a recent catastrophe had pushed her over an edge that was leading to a personal distruction of herself. Maybe a breakdown... or a stroke...

My wife just couldn't let it go by without finding out if there was something that we could do. So first we tried to find out what had happened. Seems her car was impounded because she had driven it onto the golf course. Okay. She had a room at the Inn but couldn't get anyone to give her a ride over to the impound yard to get her car. Okay When she finally got someone to bring her, she didin't want to pay the money to get it out of impound because the cost was too high. Okay. Now she wanted us to drive her 80 miles to the airport to catch a plane to Florida. Okay.. we'll do it as long as we can have some kind of verfification that someone is going to be there to help you... phone number diconnected. Now... how about taking me over the hill to my church and pastor... okay.... no one answers the phone. This goes on for awhile.... we were trying to be patient and get as much information that we could fit together to make sense. Finally we just have to cut it short for the rest of the evening. She has a room... and we can take this up tomorrow if need be. So... "take me over to the Liquor store so that I can get some Advil for my headache" she says " and then if we can go over to KFC to get something to eat because of my low blood sugar..."... we help her to the store. She goes in and buys some Advil and something else... we drive over to KFC. In the meantime she rips out a small bottle of wine from her liquor store bag and downs it within seconds in the back seat of our car. That's it for me. Got the food... took her to the hotel... sent her on her way. 2 hours to find out that she was a guzzler and that she was playing us like a deck of cards. Still... it was a shot in the dark. You never know about a lost soul. Have to pray for her safety anyways. But for the grace of God... there I go.

John 3:16-17 God so loved the world that gave his "only" begotten son, that whosoever would believe in him would not persih... but have everlasting life. For God did not send his son into the world to condemn the world... but that the world through him might be saved.

Closing Gallery...end of era....

The date is set and we are officially closing our gallery. This is the last of three that I once operated. The turbulant times... the uncertainty of the future... the changing of the buying public (however many there are)... and providence have finally come to fruition. I had some very good times doing this and gave my heart and soul to build it up... not to mention my finances. It helped to raise some beautiful children... and played a massive role in a splitting of the ways with my former wife... only to find someone even better. We tried to hold out and see if this economic storm would ease... a very unwise move as it turns out. I always hate to give-up on things, even when they should be thrown into a grave and covered over.

Are Galleries surviving....

In this time there are loads of galleries that have closed and many hanging on for dear life. Since I live in a pretty downtrodden/econonmically challenged area I feel the weight of it. My gallery shouldn't really even have doors open. (By the way, that's a picture of Western Artist Jack Terry and I during a show that we had... circa 1996) The flow of traffic is down to nothing... and the interest is really just to feed "eye candy" to those who are passing through with nothing else to do. We are located at what was once a thriving, "must stop at" Hotel on the corridor to Las Vegas from Los Angeles/San Bernardino. In fact Michael Jackson's father stopped in just two weeks before his passing and browsed through the store. Used to come here regularly. The Hotel is in foreclosure (the best location in the area) and left unkept. A far cry from the Mall Store that we had for 15 years. Used to have three Mall locations (different geographical areas)... but the Mall is looking pretty bad these days also. My old location is a "video game" stop for teens now. In fact... hardly anyone over the age of 21 in the mall these days. And over the hill in Orange County, San Bernardino, LA County and Ventura galleries have fallen like flies too. What many folks think of as galleries are now Pier One Imports or Kirklands gift stores. Mostly for decor purpose only.

I think the Internet is a viable option... and is still being developed. Hopefully real galleries with live artist and people will make a comback in the near future. But.... I dunno. Only God knows for sure. Here is Jack Terry's website if you want to see some real good cowboy art www.jackterryart.com.

Callus finger causes detour...

Yeah... too much pressure on the old finger. Hand applying small points takes a toll! So I decided to take a break and work with some photography that I found on a disk. The landscaped exposures were from old film that began to break down before being put onto a disk. The aged look worked to my benefit and made for some beautiful impressionistc reproduction from photoshop. I think they would make for great home decor for those that love the desert and mountain motif!

Internet Art Theft

June 22nd, 2010

This is a bog topic. It shows us just how important it is to have Original Art as part of our representation. It shows us how important it is to be out in the world working with flesh and blood people that we can discourse with and look into their eyes. The Internet steals that genuine relationship part of our lives "when we use it as our only vehicle for communication" in the place of a handshake and cup of coffee. It is easier for the Internet folk that have intentions that are less than honorable to take advantage of an Artists time and energy for their own advantage. It's like a sport to some! And good luck tracking them down to set the record straight. Such is the world of the Internet.

For all of those who have a conscience... we get caught up in the hailstorm. The pellets effect us because of the sour taste of the few. Trust takes a beating in cyberspace... just ask the Banks that get hacked into and all of the accounts and money that have been stolen through hidden programs that latch onto you personally to get your personal information. My son... who is very savvy about computers and the internet... thinks that half the anti-virus programs are a virus in themselves. How hard is it to remove an anti-virus program from your computer? And how many times will a reminder pop up plaque you when you're in the middle of working on a script?

Oh well... shouldn't be surprised. It's hard enough trusting someone that you know... let alone someone who sits in front of a computer in India, or China, or Washington DC!

John 10:10

The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.

Be a real friend...

Be a real friend...

I'm not very good at expressing myself... or so I think. I stumble over my words, I lack confidence, and I'm afraid of saying the wrong thing.

Went to see a gentleman that we have known for many years through my retail gallery that he graced many times over and supported. He is up in years and he lives in a very nice convalescent apartment. It had been a couple of months since we'd seen him last and I was taken back by the change. He was so heavily medicated that he just was not his old self. They have him taking upwards of 20 different pills everyday... one being Vicodin... 5 times a day at 500 mg. That alone is enough to make a mind flutter! He was very dishoveled in appearence and the stale smell of something impending was in the air. Through it he somehow seemed capable of communicating and understanding everything we talked about very well.

We had never discussed faith before and after some time had passed I felt an urgency to open up the subject. He explained that he had a hard time with it in his life because of family events that were dramatic, and because of a father that had been so unjust in his family relationships. He also found that most folks that he had known who were religious were very two-faced and did not fit the bill to what they said they were. He has been turned off by them in the past. But then he mentioned to me that he would like to speak about it... because he trusted me (my wife was also there). I could see that he was tearing up as he explained about his life... his lack of faith... questions about God and why pain happens to people... and most of all the relief he felt because someone was allowing him to talk about it after all these years. He allowed me to briefly explain how I see the love of God through the sheer act that He became human and suffered in this life just as us. That qualifies to garnish at least our respect for Him, because there is no way that we can point a finger at God and say "You don't know what it's like!" I think that's the first time that he had heard it that way. We had to leave but he allowed us to pray with him about his upcoming week and the bouts that he would be having with doctors. It was like nobody had ever prayed with him in his whole life. It was very emotional. I'm glad that I didn't let my feeling of inadaquacy rule the moments, and that I didn't shy away from sharing the love of God. This man was truly ministered to by the Spirit of God.

Scholarship Fund Dedication Release The Flame Still Burns

I was working on this piece ... not really knowing what it's initial release date would be. But as things progressed I realized that it was for my friend Rosey who had lost her son Nick in a tragic car accident several years ago. She has established a Scholarship Fund and has poured out her heart to keep the tragic event a positive occurance for others that are part of the school that he attended. He was well known for being the guy that would give you the shirt off his back. His mothers friends warned Rose that "he may one day come home without his shoes"... he was that giving.

A portion of the proceeds of any purchase of Cards or Artwork will be set aside for the fund. It is a worthy cause... and is controlled by a conscientous mother.

Won't you consider a small purchase?

Hope keeps going...

Hope keeps going...

As in the drawing... as long as life finds it's way through the crack... there is a hope! Don't be discouraged!

James 2:2-11

2 Let it be all joy to you, my brothers, when you undergo tests of every sort; 3 Because you have the knowledge that the testing of your faith gives you the power of going on in hope; 4 But let this power have its full effect, so that you may be made complete, needing nothing. 5 But if any man among you is without wisdom, let him make his request to God, who gives freely to all without an unkind word, and it will be given to him. 6 Let him make his request in faith, doubting nothing; for he who has doubt in his heart is like the waves of the sea, which are troubled by the driving of the wind. 7 Let it not seem to such a man that he will get anything from the Lord; 8 For there is a division in his mind, and he is uncertain in all his ways. 9 But let the brother of low position be glad that he is lifted up; 10 But the man of wealth, that he is made low; because like the flower of the grass he will come to his end. 11 For when the sun comes up with its burning heat, the grass gets dry and the grace of its form is gone with the falling flower; so the man of wealth comes to nothing in his ways.

Starting to Fill. Going to add acrylics to this one to bring back some background lights. Never really know what the scene will look like... since it has never happened before... at least... we don't know of it ever happening.

What's going on behind the scenes? We only have descriptions of varied events... but we are hindered from a true vision of the whole thing. I'm still just one that is struggling with how to live out a day... let alone understand what faith really is. .... the evidence of the unseen.

Progression...slowly

This has been a slow process. The idea is coming together, but I'm in no hurry to make a mistake. Especially when applying ink! Not a very forgiving medium. And since the work is being appiled to a 140LB texured surface... it makes it all the more fun! Considering ripping out some watercolors for fill. Will see. Think it's too important a subject matter to finish in a hurry.

Try Something new...

I decided to try something new and created a piece that would shake-up my portfolio a bit. So I strode into the Digital Arena a little bit more and developed a self portrait (circa 1973). I've noticed a boatload of Retro style images that have been selling on the sight... and I'm an old school, transformed hippie. I just wish that I had the same vitality I did when this original poloroid (very poloroid!) picture was taken. Went through much filtering and digital painting to come out with it. It was fun... and a good break from small dots! (Maybe those dots drove me to this!) It's called "A Patchwork Life".

Scripture of the moment:

Luke 21: 33-36

33 Heaven and earth shall pass away: but my words shall not pass away. 34 And take heed to yourselves, lest at any time your hearts be overcharged with surfeiting, and drunkenness, and cares of this life, and so that day come upon you unawares. 35 For as a snare shall it come on all them that dwell on the face of the whole earth. 36 Watch ye therefore, and pray always, that ye may be accounted worthy to escape all these things that shall come to pass, and to stand before the Son of man.

Working it through....

April 25th, 2010

Working it through....

And so I ask .... is it worth doing? Just one of those questions that come up when you are brainstorming away and feeling a little like.... it's very dry! The look is coming together.... but not close to what it will be. Get stuck on one area... frustrated... slow going... yet forgetting that there are so many other things to do on the piece. There's more than just the left hand corner... switch up to the right... It's a sign for crying out loud! Just plop it into the computer and crop... copy... and paste! That way you're not doing it by hand and taking up chunks of time! Then you can throw something up there to sell and see what happens. It's like taking a shotgun out... blasting away.. and seeing what you hit with the scatter. But that inner voice says no. Be true to what you started to do and finish it by hand.

Just thoughts in passing... but the original inspiration goes back to what got me on this track in the beginning. That is to share the good news... and if people out there like it... it will take care of itself. It's not about dollars and cents. It's about sharing what's going on in your heart. Besides... how will you be able to put all those little thoughts that are inscripted into the border?

God is love (agape). This love is not a natural love... but a love that is what His nature is. It is the supreme motivation, and can only be imparted through any of us by His promptings. Those promptings are what teach us His ways and give us insight into His nature. There are three loves mentioned in scripture... Phileo is natural affection from one person to another... Mother to child... Father to child. Eros is falling in love and physical affection. Agape is imparted to us by God when we are looking to Him. It is Divine and only comes into us through the Divine. We do not have any capabilities to generate this except through Him. It's a mystery that constrains us to follow Him and discover His ways. It's the mystery that sent His Son to die for our sins when He could have just wiped things out and started all over again. But if He did... how would we know the depths of His love for us?

Scripture of the moment...

1 Corinthians 13:13

And now abideth faith, hope, love (agape) , these three; but the greatest of these is love (agape).

Why?

Because there will be no need for faith or hope when we see Him. The will be fulfilled. But Agape is eternal.

Seeing and Thinking in Black and White...

In working this art I was inspired by an old comic from the 70's. A sample page from it is posted. (It's by Chick Publications ... named This Was Your Life) Well... the progression has really worked on me. Black dots all over a white page... I'm being inundated with them! And most folks that see the artwork don't realize what it is composed of... or they are in disbelief that anyone could have that kind of patience. Black and White doesn't is so fun to work with... but at times it takes a little more explaination!

The next major project I jump on will include color.

So... to the Black and White Pages...

Scripture of the Moment:

1 Corinthians 9: 19-23

19 For though I be free from all men, yet have I made myself servant unto all, that I might gain the more. 20 And unto the Jews I became as a Jew, that I might gain the Jews; to them that are under the law, as under the law, that I might gain them that are under the law; 21 To them that are without law, as without law, (being not without law to God, but under the law to Christ,) that I might gain them that are without law. 22 To the weak became I as weak, that I might gain the weak: I am made all things to all men, that I might by all means save some. 23 And this I do for the gospel's sake, that I might be partaker thereof with you.

God turns on our lights...

April 20th, 2010

God turns on our lights...

The love of God is essential for purpose in life! Without that inner feeling that someone out there cares for us... our heart is full of nothing but darkness. Filling that darknes, or void, comes in many different ways. One of those ways could be creating art! (And if you're reading this... you are probably entrenched in it... and probably have a great gift) One could be feeding the poor. One could be sending money to Haiti. One could be going to church. All of these could be done with a sense that it will be a fullfillment to our lives. And they are... until we have to face things alone. That's where the knowledge and experience of the Living God comes into place. Somehow we know that doing a whole lotta good things does not make us right in our hearts. We can fool ourselves if we want to... but the truth is we are made of Body, Soul, and Spirit. The scriptures tell us of our need. We are not alive until we are Born of The Spirit. Actually... it's like missing a piece of the puzzle that makes us complete. Most of us remember the movie Night Of The Living Dead. The Zombies are wandering around looking ragged and for something to quench their hunger. In a spiritual sense we are just like them. If we could see ourselves spiritually... we would probably say that we look like them too! Artist Thomas Kinkade was a great artist at a very young age. He also said that when Christ came into his life that it was like turning a switch on. It effected his art so much that he is called "The Painter of Light". I won't argue the merits of Mr Kinkade ( his succes is unmatched) but I think God wants to do that with all of us. That is... turn on our lights!

I realize that there are those who will say...Baloney! I realize that there are those who will say... Hey, get out of my face! The exit button is right there for you to use. But there are others that want to keep reading to hear what Jesus has to say about it. So...here are some scriptures.

John 3: 1-12

Now there was among the Pharisees a man named Nicodemus, who was one of the rulers of the Jews. 2 He came to Jesus by night and said to him, Rabbi, we are certain that you have come from God as a teacher, because no man would be able to do these signs which you do if God was not with him. 3 Jesus said to him, Truly, I say to you, Without a new birth no man is able to see the kingdom of God. 4 Nicodemus said to him, How is it possible for a man to be given birth when he is old? Is he able to go into his mother's body a second time and come to birth again? 5 Jesus said in answer, Truly, I say to you, If a man's birth is not from water and from the Spirit, it is not possible for him to go into the kingdom of God. 6 That which has birth from the flesh is flesh, and that which has birth from the Spirit is spirit. 7 Do not be surprised that I say to you, It is necessary for you to have a second birth. 8 The wind goes where its pleasure takes it, and the sound of it comes to your ears, but you are unable to say where it comes from and where it goes: so it is with everyone whose birth is from the Spirit. 9 And Nicodemus said to him, How is it possible for these things to be? 10 And Jesus, answering, said, Are you the teacher of Israel and have no knowledge of these things? 11 Truly, I say to you, We say that of which we have knowledge; we give witness of what we have seen; and you do not take our witness to be true. 12 If you have no belief when my words are about the things of earth, how will you have belief if my words are about the things of heaven?

Romans 10: 9-10 (Paul writing)

9 that if you will confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For with the heart, one believes unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. 11 For the Scripture says, “Whoever believes in him will not be disappointed.” [6]

John 3:16-18

16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish, but have eternal life. 17 For God didn’t send his Son into the world to judge the world, but that the world should be saved through him. 18 He who believes in him is not judged. He who doesn’t believe has been judged already, because he has not believed in the name of the one and only Son of God.

To conclude... Open up your mouth and confess that Jesus Christ is Lord... believe in your heart.... ask God to give you of His Spirit. Maybe you'll feel something... and maybe you won't. That's when you need to stand on these words ... because they are true. Then start with the Gospel of John and read it. Ask the Spirit of God to open your eyes first. He's faithful and he'll do it.

God Bless!

I'm slowly moving along on this new work. Pointillism is fun to work with... but slow. And the ideas are not flowing as freely this time around. Burn out I suppose, after a 2 month run to build up my personal art portfolio. Man... I have learned much from my first 1-1/2 months on FAA. There are so many varying styles and opinions that I never really encountered in my galleries. It's all good... all good.

Went to the local mall Sunday for the first time in quite awhile. I had tried to renegotiate my stores contract with the mall management and ownership back two years ago only to have them laugh in my face and continue to raise loophole costs that were more than my actual rent. That was before the nation was addressed about the impending financial meltdown. Spoke with one store manager that I've known for many years. The mall finally relented and negotiated a new contract with him for less that half because he was going to pull out. The former store that I occupied is renting out for almost 1/10th what I was paying. I would have settled at 3 times the amount! Stores are closed all over the walk... including Quizno's... Nestle Toll House... Great Steak Company... Penquins... Gottschaulk's... Mervyn's (Replaced by Forever 21) ... Dairy Queen... you get the point. We're in a financial disaster! Many people scratching their heads. One manager of a Barnes and Nobel department told me he thinks it is just a matter of time until Barnes and Nobel brick and mortar stores are going to be closing. The IPAD and technology is where they are heading. I'd say that we are living in interesting times. Won't be long till artwork will be purchased on the internet and printed directly to canvas in homes on a regular basis. Right around the bend! What do you think that it will do to jobs? Just something to think about... and to prepare for.

I obviously think that things are at a place of no return to the same kind of prosperity. This could be good... though I don't think that it is something that we should strive for. I also hope I'm wrong. I'd say there is an abundance of prayer needed for a settled structure by which we can all make a decent living. Or... maybe the skies are about to roll up and this phase of brief life is going to step into the eternal structure that has been foretold in the plan of God. I just want to be ready.

Scripture of the Moment:

Mathhew 25: 1-13

1Then shall the kingdom of heaven be likened unto ten virgins, which took their lamps, and went forth to meet the bridegroom. 2 And five of them were wise, and five were foolish. 3 They that were foolish took their lamps, and took no oil with them: 4 But the wise took oil in their vessels with their lamps. 5 While the bridegroom tarried, they all slumbered and slept. 6 And at midnight there was a cry made, Behold, the bridegroom cometh; go ye out to meet him. 7 Then all those virgins arose, and trimmed their lamps. 8 And the foolish said unto the wise, Give us of your oil; for our lamps are gone out. [1] 9 But the wise answered, saying, Not so; lest there be not enough for us and you: but go ye rather to them that sell, and buy for yourselves. 10 And while they went to buy, the bridegroom came; and they that were ready went in with him to the marriage: and the door was shut. 11 Afterward came also the other virgins, saying, Lord, Lord, open to us. 12 But he answered and said, Verily I say unto you, I know you not. 13 Watch therefore, for ye know neither the day nor the hour wherein the Son of man cometh.

Up very late last night reconnecting with old friends on facebook.... cleaning up art to upload.... working on this new idea.... uploading a new piece of art called Frolic and Fun....... very tired today. Still can't figure out widgets!

Scripture of the Day:

Revelation 5:13 (Read all of Revelation 5)

"I heard every created thing which is in heaven, on the earth, under the earth, on the sea, and everything in them, saying, “To him who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb be the blessing, the honor, the glory, and the dominion, forever and ever! Amen! ”

Reflection of who we are..

Reflection of who we are..

I was commenting on some artwork that I felt was very nice the other day and recieved a warm Thank You from the Artist. Very traditional art. I gandered at some of the other art representative of this artist and was confronted with pornographic scenes that one might find in a Hustler magazine... (and very well executed I might add) but not my cup of coffee (although it did slap me in the face and wake me up). The art really seemed to be at extremes, but I thought to myself... this is a reflection of who this person is... or maybe a reflection of who they would like to also be.

Now, I am a Christian... but with an unfortunate knowledge of these things (from my life's experience) that I wage war in my mind with. I had a choice to make as to whether to continue looking... or just click it off. I chose the Joseph method when confronted with temptation... I ran the other way! (clicked it off)

God gives talent to us all. Those talents can be used for good or for not so good (depending on what vantage point we're viewing things from). Both can come from the same person. Bad things come in good looking packages. Our art is a relection of who we are... or who we would like to be.

"Scripture of the Day"

Ephesians 6:

10 Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. 11 Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. 12 For we wrestle not against flesh [2] and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. 13 Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. 14 Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness; 15 And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace; 16 Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. 17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God: 18 Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints.

Sell Art OnlineDescription:
The United States has been the pillar of the world for over 230 Years. The reasons for that stem from our Judeo/Christian foundation by which our laws have been concieved. Without leaders with integrity, people of principle, and an unwavering patriotism, coupled with an unmatched vision of progress, we would not have come this far. Today we see our country in great turmoil and many running back and forth claiming to have answers for the delemma we have allowed ourselves to slip into. We are at a crossroads where the past is under assault and the future is uncertain. I believe the unltimate assault is on our traditional belief in God and that there is a great faction that is working overtime to eliminate Him from our society. We are facing the consequences of that now. I also believe that we do have a part in stemming the tide... and that is through humbling ourselves, putting away our wayward actions, and turning back to Him. That is what this art represents. I have many different thoughts and images that make up the continental United States. I also did not forget Alaska and Hawaii. Look closely and see what you find. I had fun with it... but I also wanted to make sure to hit on the right references, And... my eyes were popping from the small images and points. Probably 250 plus hours... but I never counted. God Bless! If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land. 2 Chronicles 7:14

So I ask Myself....

April 14th, 2010

So I ask Myself....

Will He say to me... "Well done good and faithful servant" or " I never knew you" ?

It's a personal question that I grabble with... and an important question that must be answered.

Ref: Matthew 25: 21 and Matthew 7:23

To answer... I am quite comfortable with my own standing before the Lord in the respect of eternal life. It is His gift to me. I am working away to avoid falling short in my faithfulness in Him. Plus... I don't want to count my chickens before they are hatched! (I don't claim any monopoly on the truth)

Paul put it this way:

Philippians3: 10 that I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, becoming conformed unto his death; 11 if by any means I may attain unto the resurrection from the dead. 12 Not that I have already obtained, or am already made perfect: but I press on, if so be that I may lay hold on that for which also I was laid hold on by Christ Jesus. 13 Brethren, I could not myself yet to have laid hold: but one thing [I do], forgetting the things which are behind, and stretching forward to the things which are before, 14 I press on toward the goal unto the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus. (Sounds like he's not taking anything for granted)

I guess this is not your everyday Bible verse of the day for many. Niether is conciously walking with the Lord. That is why so many professing Christians are thought of as "hypocrites". Because they neglect their everyday walk and trade it in for the once a week sermon that is forgotten by the time they get home to catch the latest episode of their favorite reality show.

God Bless.

P.S. The screen capture depiction is one that I have in process

Just updating the progress on this new work. Many tedious hours in small places.... 2 AM bedtime goals... but I think it's coming along. There is now a border...which I couldn't capture properly on this quick scan ... so I illiminated it. Many thanks to editing programs. Should be shot and ready sometime next week. Hope that it will hit the target and be a blessing to others.... Probably a good 250 hours... I never really count....

I'M HAVING A HARD TIME WITH THE WIDGETS... BUT IT IS IN MY GALLERY AND CAN BE BROUGHT UP AND VIEWED IN A LARGER SCOPE. SORRY... DON'T HAVE TIME TO FUSS OVER THE WIDGETS. I THINK YOU CAN JUST CLICK ON MY PHOTO AND IT WILL GO THERE.

Comments are welcome!
God Bless!
