Description
Gilroy's Old City Hall is a landmark that was labeled a "begabled, beportholed, beturreted" structure at the time of its construction in 1905. Dominating the two story building is the corner tower with its four clock faces and its tiled cupola. The two corner facades are richly decorated with stone cornices, ornamental gables, tiled roofs, sandstone window trim, and stone spheres. A statue of the towns namesake, John Cameron Gilroy, stands in front of the building.
There are lots of little architectural marvels in this town. The Gilroy Historical Society is active in preserving the past. This building, which now houses a fine dining establishment, is a supreme example.
