Description
"Remnants Of War"
In 1946 my father went to Germany and was part of the after war effort to establish civility and stability in that torn nation. He was an amateur photographer that worked with little means to produce images. This battle scarred Jeep was evidence of the carnage that was strewn across Europe. Reminders of this war must be preserved so that we do not let it be repeated. I have endeavored to do that with this first entry of private photo journalism.
The original photographic image is approximately 2" x 1.5", with lots of time elements. I scanned it and began to restore as much detail as I could. Many hours later this is the result. IT IS FINISHED WITH A TEXTURED APPEARANCE.
"Brief Overview Of World War 2"
World War II (WWII or WW2), also known as the Second World War, was a global war that lasted from 1939 to 1945. It involved the vast majority of the world's nations including all of the great powers eventually forming two opposing military alliances: the Allies and the Axis. It was the most widespread war in history, with more than 100 million people serving in military units from over 30 different countries. In a state of "total war", the major participants placed their entire economic, industrial, and scientific capabilities at the service of the war effort, erasing the distinction between civilian and military resources. Marked by mass deaths of civilians, including the Holocaust and the only use of nuclear weapons in warfare, it resulted in 50 million to over 75 million fatalities. These deaths make World War II by far the deadliest conflict in human history. -WIkipedia.

Excellent! My Dad was in Vietnam, paid for college by joining the army. Luckily he came back to us in one piece. The war hawks in congress need constant reminders of the true costs of war.
Glenn McCarthy Art and Photography replied:
My older brother served in the Vietnam war. Has never been the same. War is the last option.

Glenn, great piece of history! My father was in Germany after WWII also.
Glenn McCarthy Art and Photography replied:
Thank You Elena. The sheer numbers are staggering. They are real, and for that reason ought to grab our attention.

Agree with the sentiments in the description. Well done on going to the trouble of restoring and preserving the image.

Thank You Linda. It's worth the time if it pricks someone's curiosity to know.
