Description
After several attempts, I was finally happy to get some photographs on the old Bonsall Bridge. These are some of the archways from the concrete guardrail. Time and elements have left their mark but all indications are that the bridge is still a solid structure. It is blocked off from auto traffic. Gives one a chance to linger and take in the history of the site.
Brief History Of Bonsall Bridge – 1925
"The Bonsall Bridge (also known as the Old Bonsall Bridge and the San Luis Rey Bridge) was built during a boom in bridge construction around the state. An impressive 672 feet long, it includes five open-spandrel arches flanked by two smaller arches at either end. It carried US Highway 395 and, later, State Route 76 across the San Luis Rey River just west of Bonsall from 1925 to 1990, when it became a bike path and popular photography location." ~ San Diego History Center
