Description

The beautiful McCloud River tumbles into a colorful pool at the Middle McCloud Falls of Northern California. This stunning runoff is 50 feet high and 80 feet across. The suns rays were playing through the trees and mist rendering some nice light and shadow contrasts.

I was fortunate to catch this majestic photo at the beginning of Autumn in 2023.

"The McCloud River Canyon beautifully displays the eruptive history of nearby Mt Shasta as it carves its way through multiple layers of basalt lava rock and volcanic mud flows. Of particular interest are the many outcrops of columnar basalt, which has a unique geometric shape. These textures form as lava flows cool and contract, creating regularly spaced vertical fractures." ~ Mount Shasta Trail Association
