Description
Aimee Simple McPherson was one of the first Radio Evangelists and is widely known as the founder of the Foursquare Gospel Church. In the late 1920s, as the depression was just beginning, she purchased land in Lake Elsinore, California and built a home away from the prying general public. There she constructed a 5,000 square foot mini Moorish style castle on a hilltop overlooking the lake and surrounding valleys. It's a 360 degree view.
There's lots of mystery surrounding this home and the life of Sister Aimee. Lots of sensationalized accounts of her life, which was controversial, and mocked several times in Hollywood film lore. One thing I found in my research that I thought was astounding is this : During the Great Depression she is credited as feeding over 1.5 million people from her ministry. It is thought to be more than all the efforts of the government in the State Of California.
Though hounded for building this residence, she came by the property at a reasonable cost. When she passed away she had a net worth of approximately $10,000, destroying the myth that she was in it for the money.
This is a view from the side entrance toward the front. One of the most peaceful hilltops I have ever visited.
