Description
The Benedict Castle tower is framed by foliage on the grounds of the Riverside landmark. "The Castle" sits on a small hilltop surrounded by 14 acres of beautiful landscape and gardens.
When Charles Benedict decided to build “Castillo Isabella” he had in mind a castle residence like those he had found in Europe. He merged Spanish-Moorish and Mission Revival architecture. Noted architect Henry Jeckel served as the chief architect on the Castle project, which was constructed over the course of 9 years starting in 1922.
Over the years the castle has been used as the setting for several movies such as Hunchback of Notre Dame, Bride of Frankenstein, 1948's Abbot and Costello Meet Frankenstein and 1965's Two On a Guillotine with William Conrad and Connie Stevens. It now serves as the headquarters of Teen Challenge Southern California.
