Description
We passed through Mono Lake in 2020 during a time when the entire state of California seemed to be on fire. The photograph is from early morning and a haze hangs over the area like a morning fog.
I love the subtle reflections and the feeding fowl that spread across the lake and shore. It was an eerily tranquil setting for that time of year. There were hardly any travelers along the highway. Human life seemed to be on standstill.
Mark Twain described Mono Lake as "lifeless, treeless, hideous desert… the loneliest place on earth" in his work Roughing It. I have to disagree with the author. It is not a "hideous" place.
