Description
The old mining town of Bodie, California is just one those places that you have to visit to understand what "eerie" means. Not only did the residents just up and leave, but they left almost all of their worldly belongings behind. As one description put it, "it's frozen in time". Plates are still on the tables, pool tables with the que sticks laying where they were when everyone left. But it's not only that a town that was once at 10,000 population is no longer inhabited, but there are no trees and vegetation. It's like a tundra where people must have frozen during the winter in their strange wooden homes, and suffered through the hot summers with no cooling relief. No wonder the town was known for the many killings, drinking and general unruliness. The mine still has an estimated hundreds of millions of dollars down there somewhere. If you like mystery, this is a great place to visit.

What a terrific image of a ghost town! The leaning building in the foreground speaks a sense of longing for times not too long past, when this place had a busy life, bustling about.
