Description
"No temple made with hands can compare with Yosemite. Every rock in its walls seems to glow with life. Some lean back in majestic repose; others, absolutely sheer or nearly so for thousands of feet, advance beyond their companions in thoughtful attitudes, giving welcome to storms and calms alike, seemingly aware, yet heedless, of everything going on about them." ~ John Muir
I felt like this huge Yosemite Valley formation was peering from above the trees to keep an eye on my goings. The El Capitan (The Captain, The Chief) granite monolith extends about 3,000 feet from base to summit along its tallest face, and is one of the world's favorite challenges for rock climbers. More than that, it is a stalwart anchor of a natural monument that guards this dramatic and awe inspiring valley.
The photo was captured in 2005 from the grounds of the historic Ahwahnee Hotel. The initial image was very washed... but through the magic of digital restoration I was able to balance out much of what I thought was lost. Hope you agree.
