Description
A rolling fog sits just off shore from White Rocks Lighthouse (aka Piedras Blancas). I photographed it from the gateway, just off scenic California Highway Route . The time for the tour had not yet arrived.
In 1948 an earthquake damaged the top of the structure so that the upper 30 foot level had to be removed. This changed the height to 70 feet and took away some of the great ornamental design that it originally had, and replaced the original signal. (The image has a flock of gulls circling the top of the lighthouse)
The rolling hills on the other side of the highway house the famous Hearst Castle. Prime central California real estate, and possibly the best stretch of scenic coastline in the world!
I have enhanced the image, adding different elements of color through digital brush highlighting. There is also a blending layer of texture in specifically chosen areas. Use the full resolution preview for a closer look at the added details. 6H
