Description
The Winchester Mystery House is acknowledged by the National Register of Historic Places, and a registered California historical landmark. It is widely known as the incomplete mansion of Sarah Winchester, the heir to the Winchester Arms Company, maker of the repeating rifle that is credited to have helped win the Civil War for the north.
There are lots of tabloid accounts of Sarah Winchester. Much of it is folklore that is used by the proprietors of the Winchester Mansion grounds to promote tourism to the mysterious mansion. It is widely known for staircases that lead to nowhere, and doorways that lead to nowhere. One can be seen in my photograph just above the fountain.
The place is more than just a beautiful home. The gardens are lush. There are places to just sit and relax. It's incredible what lots of money can do.
